I have been giving my cat Petromalt regularly (like once every week) to help with his hairballs. Now that he has been diagnosed diabetic, however, I am reading ingredients on everything and I see it is basically high fructose corn syrup and petroleum.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for another product that I can give him. He has cat grass that he munches on, but that doesn't always do the trick. I looked at the pet store and didn't see anything that did not have corn syrup as the number one ingredient!

You can use plain old Vaseline (petroleum jelly). Some people use unsalted butter instead.

It's not likely your cat will lick up the vaseline like he did with the petromalt.

You'll have to put some on your finger and put it in his mouth ( like putting toothpaste on a toothbrush) and

use his palate to pull it off your finger. Just an 1/2 inch or less should do it.

The other thing that helps minimize hairballs is brushing.
My cat hates being brushed so all I can do is the hairball treatment ( now vaseline).
