One other thing she is going to join this site so that if she has any problems she can get in touch with both of you along with Bandits Mum and tiffmaxee.

I showed her how to do the @ sign and your name. I told her to start with the two of you.

Hope this is ok. She knows to reach out to me first but just in case she can't get hold of me and she was worried I thought it was a good back up plan.

She'll tell you who she is and reference Kaz
That is fantastic! We can be on high alert to help her for those three weeks you will be gone! I know that, personally, I will be checking Kaz's spreadsheet while you are gone. I will also watch out for posts. Hopefully, she won't need anything. If she's a really studious type then maybe she can read a lot of the sticky notes about feline diabetes, etc. If this works out, you may have yourself a really reliable person to take care of Kaz when you are in the UK twice a year. I am really hopeful. I hope you will find your mother well when you arrive. She must REALLY be looking forward to seeing you, Claire.

Yes she lives 1 stop away on the train. She passes my house every morning on the way to school. She asked for 7.30am shot times which is easier to adjust from 6.15am as well.
I did like her I felt like I could trust her in my house.

I gave Kaz his insulin when she was here I wasn't sure that he would actually come with her in the house as they are not that keen on people they don't know. I had her sit on a chair and then I called him and showed him the needle. He came flying into the bedroom then came to a complete stop before jumping on the bed as he sized her up. I asked him again to come up and showed him his treat. He jumped straight up ate his treat turned round lay down and waited for the injection while she was watching. This was extremely good news so I think I can train him to take the shot from her with me sitting in the chair.
He should get used to it after 4-5 days.
This is perfect! Kaz is the best boy! He loves those treats, too. And she knows that she needs to stick to those shot times closely?

I'm wondering if this young woman would be able to stop by your house some time to check up on Kaz? I suppose it would be in the middle of her school day.... now, if only she can learn how to test. It's possible... sometime in the future perhaps.... just thinking...

ETA: I mean, of course, while you are working.

Claire, this is really good news and she sounds very nice and reliable. So good she is used to giving injections. I’m sure Kaz will get used to her and I’m glad she is coming for a few days before you leave so he can get used to her.
Maybe get her to give him a few treats each time so he associates her with good things.
I’m very pleased she will post in the forum if needed and we will watch for her and help her as needed.
We don’t usually give a vacation dose out until the day before but I will speak to others and get back to you in plenty of time.
I’m so relieved things are working out for you and Kaz.

When I told her about the BG testing I thought I was going to lose her. Had to clarify that she was not expected to do the blood tests. Hoping and praying that the Libre button works for at least 1-2 weeks.
I have a second button but no one to put it on for me. I was going to discuss this with Laurie as she may be able to put this on for me. I've watched a number YouTube videos does not seem that hard.

If I could get that second button on then maybe I can cover most of the time I am out the country.

Me too I have been a bag of nerves the last few days. Never received so many rejections it's been quite off putting.

I am hoping that she will text me the BG number after she tests or at least once a day with both readings so I can keep the chart as up-to-date as I can.

There may actually be a way (trying to figure this out) that when she scans the reading goes directly to my phone although I think the vet said that if I did that then the handset would not display the result and I need her to see the reading. WIP right now.

Haven't eaten in a couple days so am going to try to eat something.
Tell you that diabetes for Kaz sucks but it's the best weight loss program for me.

@Deb & Wink - do you know anyone in the area?
No, I don’t know anyone. Since I no longer have a diabetic cat, my visits to the FDMB message board are too infrequent to have helped in this situation.

When I adopted my most recent 2 cats, I went to Ellen M. Gifford Cat Shelter in Brighton MA. They had a couple of diabetic cats being fostered. So at least they might know of someone that could help Claire in her search for a pet sitter. 617-787-8872 is the shelters phone number. Allston and Brighton are adjoining neighborhoods in Boston.

That’s the only thing I can think of for you to try Claire.

Thanks Deb I actually signed someone up tonight. I'll keep this info thou as it may be helpful down the line.

If Laurie cannot do it, maybe a mobile vet may be able to come and place the Libre when one of the pet sitters is at your house. You can ask your vet for a recommendation for a good mobile vet in your area. I got one referral from mine when I thought I may need to have a curve done back when I first started and did not know anything lol. Of course I don't live in your state but just mentioning as an option. Hope all goes well for you and your baby. I know it is such a stressful situation.
