? Pepcid?

hey guys,
What info is out there on Pepcid in cats? Is it safe to give for a little while (say, a month?) I started Frosty on it when he was vomiting a month ago. I thought I saw some red-ish tinge in his vomit and his stool looked dark so I thought maybe he had some gastritis, I talked to vet on the phone and she said giving Pepcid wouldn’t hurt. ( he gets 5 mg so 1/2 is the 10 mg pill. He’s 14 lb).

He is going to the vet for an abd US in early September to get a better idea of what’s going on - it had to be postponed bc he was feeling better for a little while, then the vet was away, and now I’m going away next week. I want to continue giving it with the Vetoryl in the morning since it seems to be kind of working? Truth is, the vomiting is sporadic... he has vomited 3 times on it over the last month, but usually small amounts of food or just water. I’ve also been feeding him a little bit less to make sure it wasn’t due to overfeeding. I don’t wanna rock the boat while we are gone.

Hopefully we can get better answers as to what may be causing the vomiting soon. I just wanna make sure we are OK for now.

Pepcid may help but it all depends on the reason for the vomiting. It could be several things so it's good your getting an ultrasound done. My cat has verified IBD and he does periodically get the pepcid at night but only for 4 weeks at a time. It seems to be a pretty safe med for cats and is given in ER's a lot when a cat comes in vomiting. The usual dosage is 1/4 of a 10 mg tab but my cat's specialist has prescribed 1/2 of a 10mg tab for him (he's 15 lbs) and this has been fine.

Glad you got confirmation from @Lillie about using 5mg, because we have always used the usual 2.5mg (and not for any extended length of time).

I totally agree, the upcoming US is good, but if you see more blood (from either end) in the mean time, you might want to ask about Carafate if you aren't already familiar. I think that it is pretty benign, and it is supposed to be very soothing to the whole tract, but you do have to heed the warning that due to that exact coating of the system, you don't give other oral medications within two hours or they won't have the desired effect. We just dropped the giant tablet into a large syringe, added some warm-ish water and shook it up to basically created a liquid out of it that we squirted into the mouth. Not pleasant, but not horrible. But we did have chalky splatter drops all over the house for a while where they would shake their mouth and spray some all around
