I have the famotidine which taste like h.e double hockey sticks.

Jones and his CKD sister just fight me when giving it. I used to give my drooler a reqular walmart brand Pepcid twice a day but that was for a 20kg dog. Was hoping I could just use a pill for Jones as he is pretty easy to pill.

I have a liquid pepcid for Leo but it takes too long to get it in him and some of it is drooled back out. They flavor it with chicken. I'm now using the regular Pepcid AC pills cut with a pill cutter. The usual dosage is 1/4 of a pill but with Leo's IBD his vet recommended 1/2 pill. I coat it in butter and leave it set a while in the pill popper. I've been successful with this in one shot most of the time. The butter taste covers up some of the bitterness. I know this because he doesn't stick out his tongue like he's saying Yeck! anymore.

Leo was having a flare up of his IBD and his specialist recommended 1/2 pill (of a 10 mg pepcid AC ) twice a day. I found that he only needs it once a day in the evening. He may be dropped back down to the 1/4 later on. I've just been watching how he does on the once a day compared to twice a day and he seems to be fine with this. I don't think the 1/2 pill is usually recommended unless there are special circumstances. From what I've read most use 1/4 once a day. I guess it depends on what the specialist feels is necessary. It has helped him an awful lot but I'm not sure what the long term effects are.

what the specialist feels is necessary
I have a phone call follow up with his IM sometime this week. I have he is more acidy lately when we increased his pred dose up. Which was good overall as I think he is generally eating more on his own without the stimulants, just seems like in the morning - he goes, licks his lips, maybe licks a bit of food and leaves. I do have the freeze dried treats out, but he isn't as interested in those lately for some reason.

Maybe the 1/2 tab was recommended for Leo since he is a pretty large cat. The auto feeder set for 2:00AM has also helped since he doesn't go too many hours without food in his stomach. His vomiting was almost always early in the morning along with the lip licking etc. He doesn't do this anymore so I know the pepcid is helping. Not a cure, but it sure helps.

What mg? Phoebe takes a half which is 8 mg. And she takes zofran 2x a day.

16mg tab cut into quarters. So, 4mg a day. He gets that in the morning. I was thinking of adding the Pepcid at night. This is a new thing with him....basically since starting the increased dose of pred.

he doesn't go too many hours without food in his stomach.

Jones free feeds so has food available basically 24/7. He does have access to the freeze dried treats also, which his food craze sister will not eat, so I just leave them out in a bowl.

a pill gun.
I have read people using that before - does it really make things easier? He is not hard to pill, but putting 2-3 pills each time takes work and treats in between as if you try to give him water he acts like he is drowning then gags everything back up.

For a cat you can use 1/4 of a regular strength (10 mg) Pepcid AC once daily. Occasionally a higher dose may be prescribed for some cats, but that would be the safe dose to give unless your vet has recommended giving more. Depending on the cause of the excess acid, many people find it works best when given at night so that it keeps excess acid under control overnight while cats are less likely to eat. The 1/4 pill is so small that if that's all I'm giving, I just put it all the way in the back of the cat's mouth and hold their mouth closed until they swallow. If I'm giving other meds at the same time, then I try to combine everything in a gelcap. Oh - and I always give a treat after a pill.

Could he might need more since the pred was increased?
Should be he opposite wouldn't it? Good question though for the IM when he does his check up call this week. He was trying to increase the pred and hopefully drop the metronidazole, cerenia and using the appetite stimulant to keep him eating. He hasn't vomitted in a long time except for white foamy stuff - which makes me think he is getting acidy stomach at night.

I bought some #3 clear gel caps - the IM wasn't impressed as it may contain cow related gelatin. I looked at the sight and did say BSE tested. So I haven't started using them. Was going to use it for the probiotic he will not take mixed into his food.
