Hey everyone,

Hope all is well, things continue chugging along at the house. Starting next Friday, I'll be off for 8 weeks to spend time at home with little Ms. Aurora, I know the cats will be enjoying their time with me as well! Peeka seems to be a little stagnant in her neuropathy recovery as of lately. She's able to jump on things a little easier and with not as much claw use, still scooting around on her hind hocks a little bit, but not getting worse, and still small improvements.

We are going to be going out of town for a funeral on a Sunday/Monday and going to need a friend to stay at the house. I've seen before people leaving instructions to assist with this, since we have two different cats needing two different insulins, and two different units, and we will only be gone for 2 days, would it be a good idea to leave the needles already filled in a bag and labeled? Any advice on leaving instructions for the cats would be appreciated.

Hope everyone here is doing well, we are getting our second dose next week before we leave.

When I had the baby, I actually took videos of everything (testing, drawing insulin, giving the shot) and stored them on Google Drive. All possible caregivers had access, and we also had them try to do it once or twice on their own beforehand.

Since labor started unexpectedly early, the best I could do was fill a syringe with orange juice to show the correct dose, with a note that said DO NOT USE lol

I know prefilling syringes is not recommended, but maybe ok for just two days?

Otherwise, I would leave a sample syringe filled with colored liquid for each cat/dose taped to an index card or something similar.

There would only need to be 2 doses given for each cat, one for Sunday night, and one for Monday morning.

I do think we’ll be having them come over as well to show how to test, and also to allow them to test. They work in a medical field already, so hopefully there’s some familiarity there.

Some people leave a syringe with colored water to show what a certain dosage will look like. That depends of course whether or not they will be testing.
Sometimes the seal in a prefilled syringe can degrade, I believe there is a lubricant between the seal and the inner part of the syringe.
