This is such a roller coaster. Yesterday, there were some glimmers of improvement and now today - not so much. :arghh:

She seems more congested again and miserable. We went into the bathroom with the shower hot water and steam on for awhile, but.....?

She is still getting her amoxi 50mg twice a day. Got 100 fluids today. Syringe fed some Royal Canin RS with Lysine in it and she fought me hard for again with the syringe feedings. :'(

This morning 9am she was 295, got 2u. Did spot check around 4pm and she was 314. Got 9pm reading of 310 and gave 2u.

I don't know. :banghead:

Sorry she's still struggling. Don't worry so much about the higher bg readings.... That will sort itself out once the cold has passed. Massage her nasal passages.... Along the nose, under the eyes, between the eyes, the forehead.
Play some soothing music (help relax both of you.
YouTube search: music relax my cat

And music for healing cats

Poor kitty. Poor human. :(. Hope today brings improvement.

Oh it's true about the music, I know it sounds totally nutty but there is some music out there that plays at certain levels or waves whatever and it can sooth your kitty. As Janet has said, the numbers will sort out once the infection is gone. It's really hard to get a handle on the numbers while a kitty is sick and it can drive you mad so don't worry about it, just test, feed and dose as usual and then massage the face because that really will help it to pass, it helps in humans too. Play that soothing music and let your kitty rest. You can continue with the shower and steam if you like, there's nothing wrong with that. I would suggest that during that time that you rub the upper chest and try to get your kitty to open up or not really lean back but lay in a straight line. I have asthma and I remember my athletic and gymnastic coaches making me clasp my hands behind my head, sit up straight and take deep breaths, it would force my lungs to open up. It's kind of the same thing, My Peanut has asthma and when he has an attack I have a certain way that I'll hold him that will force him to lean backward and arch his back, opening his airway. That's just me and Peanut though, I can do ANYTHING with him but it's just an example so that maybe you can figure out something that might help you. I know that it's not asthma but it's still dealing with breathing and sinuses so I wanted to offer up whatever I know. Sorry so long.

I think you could use a smile @ceil99 :bighug:

If Patches needs to relax tell her to try some Yoga

thanks for all the support! I need it! Just gave her the amoxi and syringe RS food with her lysine. She fought me every step of the way. She hates this the most!!!!

I think you could use a smile.
She fought me every step of the way.
That's not nutty. If I give Noah's tail a little tug he will finish his food. Am I relieving spinal pressure? Voodoo? Does it matter why if it actually works?
Oh yes! It's okay to smile. You're not required to dress in black for 6 months and flog yourself.
It takes energy to fight back. She's getting that energy from food and from your love. That's not from a Hallmark card, it's scientific fact. Love causes changes in the brain's blah blah blah
That hospital food you're giving her, you know she's going to poop on your pillow to get even don't you? It's nice to have friends.

Well, I put the music on and I must have picked the wrong ones, because about 5 min.....she threw up!! :(
Ha ha I doubt it's the music... Most likely the mucus is upsetting his belly. My son always pukes at the end of a bad cold too.

She had been on amoxi since 5-26 and today is the first day it didn't agree with her....:'(

FYI - My vet that I have been going to for a good 10 yrs now really disappointed me. I think I am going to switch to another doctor in the practice. :(

He asked me when I tested Patches. I told her I test before I shoot the insulin and then spot check in the middle of the cycle. HE TOLD ME THE PRE-SHOT TEST DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING! DOESN'T PROVE ANY DATA. IT WILL ALWAYS BE HIGH BEFORE GIVING INSULIN, SO ONLY THE SPOT CHECKS IN THE MIDDLE ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING! I tried to tell him, "Why wouldn't you test before giving insulin? What if she was in normal range or a lower number and you needed to adjust the insulin?" He said that never usually happens. They are always high before the insulin.

WHAT???????:banghead:

So your vet doesn't think diabetic cats can improve? He doesn't think the numbers eventually come down? All you can do is prove him wrong. It happens ALL the time. Really what does it hurt to get that info. Weird response on his part.

Maybe he's stressed about something else but as the saying goes "Don't take it out on me".
I'm always willing to reexamine friendships and professional relationships. I left behind a lot of unclaimed baggage when I moved here.
Patches, I won't be here tonight but you'll do okay without me.

OH MAN, that would have ticked me off to no end as well. I can't count the times that I have tested Peanut before his insulin only to find that he was very low. You know what you're doing and you were right to get upset by what your vet said. Sorry to hear about this happening.

You're right, many vets think that cats will remain diabetics forever and that they need to stay in that "normal for diabetic" BG range, they freak out when they find out that we are taking them down as far as we are. My last vet said that I was torturing my cat by testing him twice a day, every day and I had to remind him that human diabetics test themselves far more often than that and that a cat should be no different. It's my opinion that if your vet can't understand this and refuses to try then it's time to move on.
