Just wondering a few things....

1. Annie was diagnosed with Pancreatitis about 2 months ago. We found out by a vet visit with some tests etc. Vet put her on some steroids and when those were finished she seemed fine.
Now i don't know too much about Pancreatitis but from what i gather(and correct me if i'm wrong), it comes in flare-ups??? If this is correct, how do i know when she's having a flare-up? and how can i look after this at home? (pepcid ac??)

2. I feel like i can kind of tell when shes having a flare up but i'm not certain if that is the reason. Like the past couple days she has been biting me alot more when i go to test her, she's been kind of crabby and she's never EVER been crabby before... she's always so loving and gentle. Also, she's been crying(howling) after eating, and it seems as though she has Indigestion.... but i don't know how to tell!

Her numbers were good about a week ago.... but all of a sudden she shot up into reds, i assumed she was bouncing and by her numbers today so far it seems she may be coming down from it..... i guess i will see by tomorrow or the next for sure.

The dosing thing is really driving me crazy now..... I dont' even know what dose to put her on right now anymore. Her history shows that 1.75 units was clearly not enough for her... and on 2u, sometimes she went really low... the skinny 2u seemed to not be enough even. We tried a fat 2u and that doesn't seem to be doing anything. now we are back at 2u and i think i'm going to keep her there for awhile. She does need some dental work done so is it just best to leave her on 2u until i can get it done, or do i keep adjusting the doses accordingly????

I also can't help a dreaded feeling that something more is wrong with her. I don't know why i have this crazy gut feeling she has cancer or something! I hope i am wrong and i will be taking her into the vet soon for a complete check up and tests, i just haven't been able to because we've been financially tapped out due to getting married last week.... we are just starting to accumulate finances again.

i'm just so frusterated. The thing that gets me is her mood lately and her biting. she has NEVER been a biter so i KNOW she must not be feeling well. :(

Are you a member of the Feline Pancreatitis Support Group, yet? If not, you might want to join: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline_pancreatitis_support/ My kitty J.D. was diagnosed with cronic pancreatitis in March, and is doing better, although he seemed off and on for months. He still seems a little off sometimes, but not as much. I would ask for help on that Support Group, as that is their specialty.

I wish you luck.

Can you get any more tests in during the night time cycle? It looks like she is coming down, and maybe you'll see some better numbers. If not, I would stick with this dose for another day, and if no improvement in the BGs, then add the fat back on, as long as you have strips, high carb food and/or karo, and are home to monitor and test.

Thanks Dyana

Yes, i know we need more night time tests... we've been missing her peak numbers during the night. Tonight i'm going to try to get one.

My cat has diabetes and a few months ago was diagnosed as also having pancreatitis. It was definitely causing him discomfort and he was acting strange when I first noticed it which is what precipitated the trip to the hospital where we received the diagnosis. He had a very sore abdomen at the time, he would flinch if the vet palpated it, and his glucose numbers were high. Since the diagnosis he has gone on a steroid that has helped with the pancreatitis immensely - no more abdomen pain or discomfort at all. The steroid does cause some insulin resistance though, the vet told me it would, so his insulin dosage had to be adjusted upwards. But I haven't noticed any flare ups since he's been on the medication and he's once again acting normal.
