Do any of you use or recommend supplements for the pancreas? Also, is there any reason why I should not give my kitty Omega 3? (currently i have some that I give him from time to time but was thinking I might need to be more regular with it at the moment) My kitty is newly diagnosed and we have not started any treatment yet, at this point only lowered the carbs in his food.

If you haven't started insulin treatment yet that's a good time to remove carbohydrate from your cat's diet all together and see what difference will it make to her BG.
I'm a strong believer in raw home made food and addition of Omega 3 would be great, I like krill oil with astaxanthin. Unfortunately human capsules are usually flavoured with lemon or vanilla so I'm not sure that your cat would be keen but I have no problem with Rocky.
There are recipes for home made food for cats (Dr Lisa Pearson's) or you can buy commercial one or good quality cooked food. Depending where you are (USA or Europe) we have a list of foods available on FDMB.
What was Viggo's blood glucose level at the vet's when diagnosed? Have you bought a glucometer to check BG at home?

Yes I did buy a meter and it was 271 last night. I did not ask the vet what it was on Friday but plan to this week when I see them again. I think I have the food covered--what I was already feeding him was all low carb except for the dry which I have now eliminated. I was just wondering about some kind of pancreatic support to help with healing and the future. Glad to know you approve of Omega 3--I have always read good things about it but didn't know with this current condition if it may stir up some kind of complications--you never know.

My cat Smoky has triaditis, a combo of pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and inflammation of the intestines. My vet gave me Denamarin, a liver supplement to help bring down high liver enzymes and inflammation in the pancreas.

One never does, especially with pancreatitis in the mix. :(

Saoirse's regimen was as follows:

- The most bland commercial complete cat food I could find (chicken/turkey meat, jelly, vitamins and minerals, cassia gum).

- 2mg ondansetron BID (10lb cat).
- Nutramed herbal anti-inflammatory (boswellia, milk thistle, maritime pine bark) - 1 capsule per day spread across all meals (loading dose); 1/2 capsule per day spread across all meals (maintenance dose).
- Hepatosyl q 24 (SAM-e and milk thistle supplement) - for liver and pancreas support (similar to Denamarin).
- Moxxor Omega 3 supplement BID (from green-lipped mussels - other fish oils made her very nauseated, especially salmon oil - tiny Moxxor capsules made for easy administration - available online).
- mini meal feeding of the most bland complete food I could find (high protein, moderate fat, very low carb <2% kcals from carbs) with a little water added.
- Zobaline 1.5mg q24 (didn't give full dose because she also had stage II kidney insufficiency).
- 0.12 - 0.15ml bupe as needed (in later stages - mostly to help with blood pressure issues as conventional BP treatments triggered GI distress or inflamed her pancreas and had to be withdrawn).

When CKD came into the mix I used the following additional treatments:

- good quality B-complex (Jarrow B-right - 1/10 capsule per day).
- Aluminium hydroxide binder.
- pumpkin to help with constipation issues arising from side effects of bupe, ondansetron and AlOH.
- eventually added Miralax to soften stools, again due to constipating effects of other treatments.
- occasional treatment with organic slippery elm bark.
