Re: Paisley in Shelter--Will be Destroyed in 7 Days

If they continue giving her 10U of N once per day she won't survive 7 days :(

Most of you know that I have adopted several diabetic cats from shelters, so often a simple change in diet and nice home is all they need to go off insulin.

Two of mine never needed insulin once I changed their diet, two of mine only needed it for a few weeks. If you are thinking about her please remember this FD may be stress induced and she may easily be a wonderful happy kitty.

I'd love to but can't afford another cat, at least for now. I pray that someone can adopt Paisley!

Paisley has a "maybe" stay of execution. The shelter is willing to try Lantus, but is not giving any guarantees as to how much more time they will give Paisley. DCIN is sending Lantus and testing equipment today. Please keep sharing Paisley. Her situation is still dire.

Fremont is pretty rural - north of Grand Rapids -- about 3 hours drive from where Hope, Kimber and I live on the south east side of the state.

Allison of Allison & Toby may be closest - they live approx due east of Fremont. Mindy & Max may be over that way too if anyone has stayed in touch.

Poor guy! I hope and pray someone steps up and at least fosters him!

I will be happy to help with transport or foster costs....

Sending prayers!!

would love to take him, but we're in CA. Please let me know if I can help in his care financially. He looks so sweet.

Hope someone could take him in.

Bet we could get her to California. =) Afterall we are getting one from MI to Fla...lol Distance doesn't stand in DCIN's way very often.

What's with these Michigan people, anyway.
Maybe some of us have a lot on our plate right now and cannot take in another diabetic.

I didn't mean FDMB Michigan people, I just meant that lately a couple of the
cats that have been at risk for PTS have been 'sheltered' in Michigan.

I think the MI economy is worse than the average state. So, pets needing expensive treatments are likely to end up at the shelter.

I hope the lantus and diet change work. I wish someone could at least foster Paisley and get her out of the shelter into a quieter, less stressful place.

I JUST READ AN ARTICLE....TABBY'S PLACE...IN RINGOES...THEY WORK WITH SHELTER ACROSS THE US
TAKING IN CATS THAT ARE SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA...I HOPE I AM NOT TOO LATE...
I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK INTO THIS BUT PLEASE TRY

Thanks for remembering me, Phoebe! And yes, I live about 25 minutes from the shelter where Paisley is currently staying. In this area, it is extremely hard to get a pet owner, let alone a shelter, to treat a cat for diabetes. And Cyn is right, the economy here is TERRIBLE. It's been in the toilet longer than it has for the rest of the country, and I don't know when it might come around.

All that aside, the shelter housing Paisley is one of the best in West Michigan. Both my dog (now GA) and my civie came from that shelter. If the shelter was between me and work, I would gladly try to figure out a way to help with a shot schedule. Unfortunately, it is not, and I cannot foster Paisley right now.

I have been in touch with Venita since she became aware of Paisley. My contact info has been forwarded to the shelter in case the vet tech needs help with the Lantus protocol. And I have told Venita I am quite willing to help with transport. Last I talked with Venita, she was working hard to help Paisley...I'm confident she'll get things worked out!
