Painful minor burned paw

My troublemaker 4 month old civie burned his paw by walking across a hot stove last Monday  It's a flat glass top stove so it looks like part of the kitchen counter to a curious cat :-| I took him to the ER where a vet said the burn was very superficial. She prescribed buprenex and silver sulfadiazine (burn cream). On Saturday he saw the regular vet. The appointment was scheduled before the burn incident. Civie behaved well.... until he jumped off the exam table and screamed when he landed   Vet examined the paw and said it was healing well, just very sensitive. He didn't think more bupe was necessary, just keep an eye on the paw and limping.

Any ideas on how to keep civie from hurting his paw from jumping off things and running? He hurt his paw last night by jumping off the living room side table and again this morning by sliding across the bed and landing on the floor. Poor baby screamed in pain each time and held his paw up whimpering when I looked at it  Would hot or cold packs help minimize the pain, kind of like how it helps people? He can walk with a slight limp and rests the paw a lot.

Did I mention that he's an Aby and is programmed to jump and climb and be extremely active?

That doesn't sound right or good to me. A minor burn would be done and over with by now.

Can you look at the paw? Is it still blistered? Does it appear infected? Is it open?

If you are able to move all his toe joints and his ankle joint then it should rule out an injury. What does it look like? Are you using ab ointment? If the area is raw still without the new skin growing back yet, assuming it came off, then perhaps you could pad it up if he'll let you so he doesn't keep irritating it. was there any blistering? If he is a diabetic it takes longer to heal up. When my dogs hurt their paws we would bandage then tape a sock on. They were funny 'cause the sock made them limp they thought they couldn't walk. Hope it heals fast

Well the line of thinking is ...when cat's get declawed they don't use regular litter either.

They should get shredded newspaper.

The paw pads look completely normal. No scabs or anything. All the toes and joints can move just fine and without pain. It just hurts really bad when my civie lands after jumping or running too much :-| But try to tell an Aby not to jump and run  The vet said I didn't need to continue the burn cream since the paw was healing very well.

The only way to keep a cat from jumping around ... is going to be a crate for a bit.

Nerves which were burned may be exquisitely tender for some time.
