Out of remission

Thank you for all this info I'm feeling overwhelmed again!!! Just like before lol...I cant let her graze on wet food she just eats it all at once, when first got diagnosed she was grazing on hard foods so I thought that was the problem but was most likely the people wood she was eating.
Yes I agree the 1 unit is too much so I will be doing .5 but I would like to start low and slow. So what would you recommend your feeding schedule for me? I have a 1yr old and him feeding her table scraps now is how I bet she fell out of remission.
I have a freestyle and a ReliOn meters which one is best?

Sorry you find yourself back on the diabetes wagon. Here is a link to your other post in Welcome.

Either meter is fine. From a financial perspective, the Relion will be a lot more economical however depending on which Relion meter it may need a somewhat larger blood sample than the FS. The important thing is to pick a meter and stick with it so I would pick whichever one you are most comfortable with.

Difficult to say what Chloe's food schedule should look like without any data to look at but most folks try to keep the majority of the food in the first half of the cycle. As for the grazing, have you considered a timed feeder so that food can be available with some regularity but in small portions?

How you deal with a 1yr. old who wants to share with the cat is totally out of my wheelhouse. Good luck!

How about a timed feeder. You can fill it, set it, and forget it. (Of course, you may need to invest in a Roomba to pick up all of the contraband that the baby is throwing on the floor!!)

The first step, though, is to get a spreadsheet set up so you have a place to put the test data you'll be collecting. I'd encourage you to review the sticky notes at the top of the board as a refresher an post any questions you have so we can lend a hand.

In general, it's a good idea to try to feed your kitty her food prior to nadir (lowest point in the cycle). You'll need to collect some data to get a sense of where nadir falls, though. Also, remember it takes about a week for the depot to form and stabilize.

Would a timed feeder dispense dry food or wet food? I'm not sure I have more backup strips for the freestyle one, although the ReliOn confirm is the one I have with thin lancets...
Took her to vet apt it was in the 500s, so later in the evening I didn't check her i just fed her and gave her .5 insulin. This morning I couldn't give her insulin again when infed her breakfast because dinner was 1030 and breakfast was 830 so I thought insulin had to be 12hrs apart. So after feeding her at 830 I waited until 1230 checked her and it was 347 so fed her and gave her insulin

I think updated her spreadsheet correctly, insulin has to be 12 hrs apart right? I'm all messed up with times and feed lol ahhhhhh overwhelmed!!

Casey -

Can you check the setting's on Chloe's spreadsheet. You should have the "Share" setting indicating anyone with the link. When I went to open her spreadsheet, it indicated that access was denied.

I have the same problem as you, George will not graze he just scoffs it all down in one go. I use a timed feeders
for wet food.

I cannot see your ss either, can you check the settings as Sienne described above.

I should look into that feeder, how much is it and where can you get one? Also how do I know how much I should be feeding her now? Shes always starving.

I think i fixed the setting on the chart also

I didn't give you links because I'm in Europe so it wouldn't be helpful, hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.
You could try looking on amazon??? not sure how competitive their prices are.

You can find feeders on Amazon. There are the 2 bin type that is the least complicated and there's one with 5 bins. Basically, you want to figure out how many calories your kitty needs and then divide that up. I always add water to the canned food and that way it stays moist in the feeder.

So how do I figure out how many calories she needs? Sorry I just want to get this all under control again you know

The formula for calories required is 13.6 X ideal body weight in lbs. +70. The number of calories can then be adjusted up or down depending whether kitty needs to gain or lose weight, is a hyperactive kitty or a couch potato. Weight needs to be monitored to ensure kitty gets to and then maintains an ideal weight.

I note from your original post that Chloe was 11 lbs. at the time of her initial diagnosis. If she is down to 5 lbs. now, that is a substantial weight loss. Was 11 lbs her ideal weight or did she need to lose a little at that point in time?

At the 11lbs she needed to lose weight and was considered overweight! So I'm not sure what an ideal weight is then...8lbs? Would that be ideal?

I just looked it up and 1 can of the pate is around the amount of calories for an 8lb cat so that's what I've been feeding her

At this point, since she needs to gain weight, I'd go with the 11 lbs. In addition, with diabetes, nutrients aren't getting into the cells which is why diabetic kitties are always starving. You can always begin to cut back on the calories as you see that Chloe is getting back to a better weight.

Dr. Lisa's food chart has the calories listed and most cat foods also have the calories on the label.

Hi Casey,

What a bummer that Chloe is out of remission, but she did it once, she can do it again!

My little girl Freckles needed to gain weight as well. I am still figuring out the exact amount of food she currently needs as she is not regulated and is always ravenous too! I got a Petsafe 5 tray automatic feeder and it is wonderful! (Freckles thinks it's wonderful too!). I got it off of Amazon. Multiple small meals throughout the day helped stop Freckles from stealing toast out of the toaster.

The other thing that helped me was the cat body condition scale. I know it's on the FDMB forum here someplace, but was unable to find the specific link but found it on Google for you. https://www.wsava.org/WSAVA/media/PDF_old/Body-condition-score-chart-cats.pdf I got a baby scale and weigh her weekly and in conjunction with the body condition score chart I think we are pretty close to decent shape now.

I have numerous baby proof latches around the house. The rest of the family had to learn to clean up after themselves and put stuff away - not a bad lesson. Microwaves and ovens are great storage places.

Freckles has her own room when messy people are eating or cooking, and when the other cats or dogs are eating... is it possible for Chloe to have her own special room while the 1 year old is eating?

I hope this helps a bit?

Yes that helps tremendously!! I need to look into the feeder. My chloe is the same as yours with food, although hasn't taken it out of the toaster I did fight her for my piece of pizza she stole the other day haha.

At this point in nervous if can get it back under control. Her morning sugar was just 456!!!
