? Out of remission and wanting to change insulin

Hello everyone! Mr. Kitty recently came out of remission due to the stress (we think) of our other cat being really sick with IBD - or it could be that we changed his food from Zero Mature to Dr. Elseys's (also eats FF like a pro) I don't know what happened. We have a vet appointment Thursday to rule out dental work just in case. He was originally dx in 2018 and put on 3U/day of Vetsulin, and with the help of everyone here and a low carb diet, we were in remission within just a few months. I was so stressed during that time because Vetsulin dropped him so low so fast and I felt like I was testing him every 2 hours because his numbers so were so inconsistent. It's been a great stress free 9 months but I know it's time for him to start insulin again. I am researching and leaning towards using a either a depot insulin or PZI. I say PZI because it seems similar to Vetsulin, which we are accustom to. Does anyone have advice or willing to share their experience? Thank you.
 
ProZinc is a good insulin, but I would recommend going with one of the even longer-lasting options, glargine or detemir. I chose detemir (Levemir) for Mia, and it has been wonderful for her. Glargine is another excellent choice (Lantus or Basaglar). Yes, they work differently than Vetsulin, but it won't be too hard for your to learn the differences, and it is worth it. In my experience, detemir has a later onset and a much gentler action. It produces much flatter curves, so no more drastic ups and downs like we sometimes had with ProZinc. It has also removed the stress at shot time of having to make the call on whether to give the planned dose or not if the pre-shot number is lower than expected. I can shoot on much lower numbers than I could with ProZinc. Cost may be a deciding factor for you. A lot of people choose to get their insulin from Canada so they can get it cheaper, and the place most people use has does not carry Levemir.
 
I thought it would be strange for them not to have it. It's readily available here although you can't get vials, only pens or pen cartridges here so maybe that is what folks were referring to. ???
