Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you so much for existing! If I had just gone along with my vet's plan, LeeLee would have been eating crappy food and requiring insulin indefinitely.

So now that she's officially OTJ, how often should I test her BG? Once a day for the next couple of weeks and then slowly taper to once a week? Something else?

Thanks,
Erin and LeeLee

Congrats!!!!!!

I test Bandit once or twice a month. He thinks he's a raccoon, so I also test him if I suspect he got into something he shouldn't have eaten, or if I see him drinking water (he doesn't usually drink water unless his BG is running high, so that's one of my warning signs. Every so often he drinks just to freak me out, though).

I would test once or twice a week for this first month, just for peace of mind (it's hard going from constantly worrying about BG to being more relaxed about it!). But after that, it's up to you how much you want to test. I would recommend testing at least once a month.

Infection, getting into high carb food regularly, dental problems and other secondary health conditions can all cause a relapse, so you want to stay on top of all those things, and treat the problem and high BG asap if one of those things happens. The sooner you catch and treat the underlying problem and get BG back under control, the sooner you'll likely get back to remission. :-D
