Milo has been OTJ since September 2009. He is eating the low carb Fancy Feast since he went OTJ. He also eats a weird assortment of human food. His glucose is normally 54-70. Last week he was even crazier than normal and I checked his glucose and it was 30! I gave him bread and some higher carb cheese and gravy Fancy Feast foods he gets as treats. The next day it was 48. Today I purchased some Friskies Savory Shredds (a case at Sam's Clubs) to have for treats. I called Friskies to get the carb content and the highest was 3.3% and the lowest was 2%. In all honesty I can't remember what the recommended percent is to be considered 'low carb'. I was hoping one of you regulars and experts might be able to help.

thanks

Low carb is considered to be below 10% - I only feed Zoe ones below 5%. When you called Friskies for the carb content....did you ask for the "as fed" values? if not, they probably gave you the guaranteed minimums....which are not the carb percentages you are looking for.

As for Milos' 30.....since he is not getting insulin that number is pretty OK....shocking when you see it, but since no extra insulin....a very strong pancreas working there.

Yes, no reason to feed HC if he's not on insulin. A cat can't go hypo if he's not on it unless there's something else wrong. Remember that the human meters read a little low for safety reasons...so that 30 is probably really a 50.
