Thank you, everyone for the nice wishes!! Mr.Cat is doing great and we are pleased to be at the falls today!! We would not be here without this forum (my vet told me that Mr.Cat would be on insulin for the rest of his life). Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement!

I also wanted to give one more plug for a very low/almost-zero carb diet. Mr.Cat's BG fluctuated quite a bit until I put him on an almost-zero carb canned food called Nutro:Natural Choice soft loaf pate (NC) found at Petco or Petsmart. I feed chicken, turkey and duck. The soft loaf cans have NO grains, veggies, starch, clay, or any added carbs - ingredients are just meat, liver and vitamins/minerals. When I switched Mr.Cat to a homemade raw diet, I still occasionally fed NC and saw no change in his BG. But when I occasionally fed Wellness, Merrick, FF, and other 3-5% carb foods, Mr.Cat's BG would spike 20 points or more (and also fluctuate between higher and lower spikes). SO.... I am a strong supporter of very low/almost-zero carb diets overall.

That said, I always had some high-carb canned food around for emergency situations (low BG). But those low BG days never came back once I switched to an almost-zero carb diet. I attribute this to a healthy liver function keeping those BG's from getting too low. Mr. Cat also never "bounced" when I switched him to an almost-zero carb diet. He stayed nice and even.

I know many folks on this site may disagree with me, and some cats have gone OTJ on 3-5% carb diets. But if you happen to have a cat like mine who is VERY carb-sensitive, and if you have big fluctuations in BG with little control, consider an almost-zero carb diet and see how it goes!! Mr.Cat seemed to do well on it.

Carl- You can find Nutro:Natural Choice soft loaf pate (turkey, duck, chicken) at Petco or Petsmart. I think most pet food stores have it. I can't guarantee that it is zero carb, but it is extremely low carb (less than 2%). I believe even a pure raw meat diet has at least 1% carbs due to the essential added nutrients like bonemeal, fish oil, taurine, vitamins/minerals. I guess when I say "zero", it is as close to zero as possible. For Mr.Cat, anything 3% or higher really raised his BG. I've noticed that the 3%+ canned cat foods usually have veggies, potatoes/potato starch, fruits, or some other additive. Mr.Cat does best with just meat, organs, plus vitamins/minerals.... just like his old hunting diet consisting of mainly gophers, mice and birds (some of which used to end up on my porch before he retired his hunting claws)! :-D

Thank you so much, Camille! We were hoping you would enjoy your holiday instead of making a video for Mr.Cat. Besides, he wouldn't have watched it anyway (cat snob). Ha ha. :lol: Thanks for the photo. Mr.Cat is definitely king of our house!
