Well, I think it's too good to be true, but Tigger is no longer getting insulin. He has totally confused the vet.
The vet has recommended no more insulin shots and that he should be going in for a Fructosamine test 2 weeks after his last shot which will the latter part of next week.

How often should I still be testing his Blood Glucose?

Milo first day otj was December 20, 2009. I continued to test twice a day for the next 2 weeks, and then once a day for the following two weeks. There after, I usually tested Milo a couple of times a month. I would suggest you continue to monitor Tigger at least periodically. The reason I say this is, recently Milo's number's spiked back up and I have been giving him small doses of insulin to try to get them back down. I made an appointment with the vet to determine if something else is causing the spike, but if I hadn't been testing him, I would have never known. Milo is not showing any symptoms of high BS. So testing a few times a month may save you from Tigger going to high at some point in the future.

We continued to test "pre-shot" times for 2 weeks after, with a follow up test after food when we wanted to make sure she was bringing herself down.

After the trial, we continued testing once or twice a day because Smokey was confused and wouldn't eat until we tested and pretended to shoot, that was her routine and she wanted to follow it. We slowly reduced testing to once every 7-10 days, spot testing whenever anything seems off. I say test regularly for a couple of weeks to confirm the OTJ status, then as much or as little as you are comfortable with, but probably get at least once a month.

we went off insulin in july 09....i tested once a week for sometime then went to every few weeks, then to monthly...i test about every month and a half and just keep and eye on eating etc...just habits alone you can catch a rise in bg...we tried a new friskies food and noticed after a few days he started to drink alot again...took that away changed food and stopped instantly...so testing can slow down after a while as long as you keep and eye if symptoms pop up again....

good luck!!
