OTJ for 18 days - 14 days under 108!

The last time I gave Kittycat insulin was on April 19th in the morning. I only gave him .25 units. When it came time for his next shot he was at 4.6 so I didn't give insulin and haven't haven't had to since! :) Since April 23rd his sugars have been between 3.1(55.8) and the highest was 6.0(108) before I fed him. The last week he has been between 3 and 4.4. So I guess I can officially say it has been 14 days without insulin and numbers below 130 - so my kitty is OTJ!

How often do all of you with OTJ cats check their bloodsugar?
Is it possible for a cats sugar to go too low even without insulin?

Most people test once or twice a day, then once a day, then a couple times a week, then once a week. Then any time things seem off with your kitty.

A cat off insulin can range from the 40s - 120. Most seem to be around 50-80.

Is it still important to feed him at the same time everyday now that he is not on insulin?
 
I'm a newbie, but I would say probably yes... That is what kitty's body is used to, if you change up now, maybe it could throw things back out of whack?
 
I am not planning to change his feeding times at all but since he was diagnosed I have had to make sure I was home every morning and night to give him his insulin. I am just wondering if it will throw things off if I have to feed different times here and there if I am away and need someone else to come and feed / take care of him. The last thing I want to do is throw things off and make him need insulin again!
 
You want to continue frequent meals on a newly functioning pancreas. It doesn't have to be a perfect schedule. But smaller frequent meals put less
strain. I try to make sure my own girl has food every 4 hours ( either by me or an autofeeder)

When you test, give a meal right afterward and then check again in 3 to 4 hours to see if bg has dropped a little. That indicates everything is still
going smoothly.

My spreadsheet has a lot of good examples ( but lately we are having issues and we haven't figured out yet if this is a pain issue or if her
pancreas is starting to lose it's remission status.)

Hi everyone!!
It's been a while since I posted on here but I just realized today that its been a whole year that Kittycat has been in remission! :) He does have CRF as I mentioned in another thread a while ago but he still seems to be doing well and happy. He is laying with me right now as I type. :) Big thanks to all of you who were so much help to get him OTJ!!! :-D
