? OTJ day 9 and we had a major incident (set back?) today.. Nikko got into a box of crackers

Well as the title states, Nikko is up to his usual shenanigans and I didn't realize the kitchen door was open when I was getting ready for work this morning. I also didn't expect him to go on top of the fridge and knock down and open a closed box of crackers - sweet potato wheat thins, which are particularly high in carbs.

His sugar tested this morning in the pink zone, not surprised, but when I came home from work I was sad to see it's still right up there :(.

Looking for advice on if I should give insulin tonight or wait and see if it comes down naturally, since he was doing well on his OTJ trial. I'm very disappointed but he couldn't have been happier with his find this morning......

I'm so sorry AmandaJean but I had a good belly laugh reading this and I suppose that's just because I have a peanut butter sandwich thief. That said I know how upsetting this must be for you. Just how many crackers do you reckon he devoured? I'm leaning toward a wait and see approach.

LOL no I am laughing too... in between being frustrated. He acts like I don't feed him!! Honestly I'd guess he got 1/4 of the box not even joking.. he had a feast! and then still wanted breakfast (which I gave him). He has always been a food hound even pre-diabetes. Once he ran away from the kitchen with a portabello mushroom the size of his head in his mouth!

A 1/4 of the box sounds like a pretty hefty chow down. I'd wait and see where he's at tomorrow although it may take a bit to clear that much out of his system. I am laughing again, picturing Nikko with the mushroom! My old guy swiped thawing pork chops off the counter one day but his best heist was a cooked chicken breast off a buffet in the middle of a party we held for my DH's work colleagues. Thank goodness the colleagues that caught him in the act were cat lovers. You gotta love 'em!

Laughing so hard at these antics! Crackers, mushrooms, peanut butter sandwiches, pork chops and the chicken breasts at a party! What will happen next?

So Nikko is a crack(er) head and you call that a setback? Daniel claws me if he doesn't get his cream cheese fix, Lewis has a stash of stolen tofu in the basement, Andy parades around a 70 pound dog like he's wearing thigh high boots and fishnet stockings and the dog is into it (pervert!) and our last dog downed a bowl of Goodies requiring a two day rental of a Rug Doctor machine. Is this your first cat?

So funny !!!! I can picture all this ...

LOL. Caught my attention on this one. Our Sugar Kittehs sure love the carbs and sugar. Leo will do anything to sneak some loose carb treats.

I bet your kitteh will be fine after he stops running around the walls.
Oh, I miss Leoberry and LD stories and pictures so much. Hugs to the furkids at your house.

Last dog had a taste for Tums, once chewed through a small plastic bottle and scarfed down the entire contents. Multi colored Tums = Play Doh poo.
Zantac works much better for heartburn and I have minor anxiety attacks.
That dog had a limited understanding of English. "I said Zantac, not Xanax you idiot!" :banghead:

LOL - reminds me of Benny and the great cinnamon roll escapade! Also reminds me of our GA cat Isabelle, who would jump up onto the refrigerator, grab a Little Debbie snack from the box, and high tail it off under my daughter's bed. To my knowledge, she never actually ate them, but she sure liked to have her stash! Then there was the time that my daughter asked me to pick up some mealy worms (live) for her gecko. I got them and set them on top of the terrarium in her room - when she got home, she wanted to know where they were. Yup, Isabelle had taken the bag to her under-bed stash, and opened it. Mealy worms everywhere!!

OMG!! I'm trying to catch my breath from laughing!! There was an old time member who's cat would snatch waffles out of her toaster!!

I'd wait -- I suspect Nikko's numbers will come down. (Threaten to give a shot and see if that helps numbers to come back to pre-cracker lever.)

These stories are great! My Potter, who I had when Max was just a wee lad, loved his carbs too. Bread, muffins, cake, crackers, etc...if it was on the counter he thought it was his. I remember coming home from work once to a half chewed and mangled loaf of bread—he chewed through the plastic after he dragged it down to the floor! He also loved living in the giant lilac bush we had in the backyard...we’d just have to leave the door open for him to come in, because he wasn’t coming out until he was ready!
