OT - Weather in Missouri

Just got a text pic from my daughter, who lives is southwest Missouri. Two days ago, she filled her car with gas here. Today, that wasn't an option. This happened around 1am this morning, seven miles from her house.

I'll take Hurricanes over Tornadoes any day....

Does anyone know if any peeps live around the Springfield/Branson/Fort Leonard Wood area? Apparently it was a very ugly night last night.

When I first moved to NC, I used to get really frustrated with hurricanes... You'd watch them coming off the coast of Africa and 2 weeks later it STILL wasn't here, but looming. You were continually on guard. nailbite_smile

In contrast, tornados, at least those in Illinois when I was growing up, come from seemingly nowhere...unless you're a Doppler Geek (not available when I was a kid). You hear the siren, go to the basement, wait 5 minutes, come upstairs, exclaim something like "OH CRAP!" (or an expletive of your choice), and start picking up the pieces. None of that built-up angst you get from storms w/ names!

Which to prefer? I'd rather stick w/ the angst and watch the Doppler! Chances are it's going to turn and go elsewhere... but then again, I'm a couple of hours inland.
