I guess with all that's been going on with Cini Mini I haven't been paying enough attention to my other geriatric cat, Honey. Monday and Tuesday she vomited once each day but Wednesday she was fine. Then, this morning I heard a squirting noise from the litter box and thought "oh great, what's going on with Cini now." and it was actually Honey having diarrhea
Then she got out of the litter box and threw up a little bit more.

I took Honey to the Vet this morning and she said it could be a number of things but her top hunch is pancreatitis from the change in diet. The Vet gave Honey 100 mls of fluids SQ and an injection of Serenia, took some blood for a geriatric panel and sent us home with some Purina EM (which is 30% carbs, you can see the grains of rice in it.)

Now I'm playing Traffic Cop with keeping Honey in my bedroom and Cini out of the bedroom so that they don't eat the wrong food.

Poor Honey, she came home and dug right under my comforter and hasn't come out except to eat twice.

Awww...poor Honey. I hope she's feeling better soon. It's definitely tough juggling more than one...we're thinking of you!!

Oh, no! sending healing vines in waves to Honey...
hope she feels better...

Hugs to Honey. I love her name. I'm glad she is eating - thats great news. I hope she is all better soon.

Re: OT - My Civvie cat Honey is sick :(

I would use the FortiFlora, too. You can get it online or directly from the vet's office. My cats LOVE it and it's good for diarreha.
Sending feel all better soon vines, to Honey.

I would also talk to your vet about pain meds. Pancreatitis can be very painful. The common thing to give is buprenex or buprenorphine. It also helps if you can give fluids at home.

Sending Honey healing vines....poor baby!

Re: OT - My Civvie cat Honey is sick :(

Thanks guys and thanks for your advice and suggestions. I'll give the Vet a call first thing in the morning to find out about pain meds and FortiFlora.

Re: OT - My Civvie cat Honey is sick :(

Just got off the phone with the Vet and she said all of Honey's lab work and tests (even the one for pancreatitis) came back normal and negative. In fact, the Vet said she's looking pretty good for a 15 year old cat!

We're going to chalk it up to me going crazy buying 10 different flavors of LC Fancy Feast and 10 different flavors of LC Friskies. I guess I went overboard with the menu selection ohmygod_smile

Next steps will be to keep Honey on the Purina EN for 2 more days and then gradually mix in ONE flavor of regular food over the course of a few days to wean her off the EN.

(I will be narrowing the pantry shelves to 3 flavors of FF and 2 flavors of Friskies)

  Binks had a blast sampling the huge assortment of food I got him in our early FDMB days...
but was not NEARLY as thrilled with the "blast" later on in the litter box...

Request a copy of the lab work for your records. Some vets run the wrong pancreatitis test for cats - it needs to be a special one. My brain is fried though. The blood work will tell you the most.

I hope she starts feeling better soon. Hugs.
