Any tips on keeping flies away from cat food (or killing them!). I've got a bunch of flies in my kitchen that don't seem to want to crawl on my fly strips. I used some spray to kill some...but I can't just hang around all day. I'm concerned the cats are going to get sick from flies on their food but they free feed...always have since some won't eat unless I am gone and they don't eat all the food at once. Any suggestions or advice?

Are you feeding them inside or outside? If outside, you might want move their food indoors? I'm sorry I can't be of much help; Michelangelo just ate a fly yesterday that had drowned in their cat food.

They're inside. Freaking flies in the kitchen!!!! I've been working on getting them...thought I had most til just now when I fed! Well here's hoping they die off soon...I HATE flies!

Maybe use a vaccuum to get them?
Or, unscented hair spray will slow them down so you can exterminate them. Put the cats out of the room, and spray as needed.com then clean up. (Works great with winged stingy insects you don't want angry.)

I have read there are some plants that are supposed to be good for repelling flies. Lavender, mint, basil & bay leaf if I remember correctly. I haven't tried it yet. My DH is in a constant war with flies, too - yuck!!
