Alpha Trak Test Strips are being discontinued. They are coming out with a new meter for pets. This information was provided by a vet.

I've sent a message to Abbott. I'll report back when I hear something. I'm going to be really upset if its true. I have 2 Alphas that will be useless if they discontinue the strips. Both of these meters are less than 4 month old.

It's starting to sound like Abbott is not the greatest with their products.

First, we find that their FreeStyle meters are horrible for use with our cats; never any BG above 300, and now, they are discontinuing the strips for their pricy pet BG meters?

I think it's time to switch to a reliable supplier of materials, like Bayer, or go with the OneTouch or Relion.

I have a Relion I use for backup. I picked up the Alpha because its what our vet uses and its easier to compare numbers that way.

Wow, I'm just seeing this now! I wonder how much is the new meter?
Depending on cost of new meter, it may be a nice opportunity for me to switch to a human meter and be more in sync with all of you! :-D

Abbot switch to their new AlphTrak 2 website overnight. It doesn't mention prices, though.
The prices on ADW looks to be very close to the original.

Here is the response I got from Abbott...

Hello Amy,

Thank you for contacting Abbott.

We have an updated meter that has come out with new strips as well but these AlphaTRAK II strips are able to be used with the original meter.

To use the new strips with the original meter you would always set the meter to code 7 for the most accurate reading.

Sincerely,

Abbott Animal Health Customer Service

I'm glad they mentioned the part about making sure its always set at Code 7 (for the new strips). I probably would have missed that in the instructions.
