Hi, everyone. We are back. DFIL passed away last week -- very tough.

Had to take Kitty to the vet three hours before the plane left, for the sore below his ear that was not getting better. Diagnosis was "hot spot" and also bacterial infection (I THINK!) in ears, causing itching. He did NOT think it was ringworm, thank heavens, although it was pointed out here that it has to be cultured to be sure, and that was not done. There are no new sores, which is good sign.

The vet gave Convenia, but that seems to have gone fine, prescribed a cream that had steroids.

Jill and Sienne and all of you other wonderful people helped us reject the original medication. DPS picked up Silver Sulfadiazine cream 1%, which has been applied 3x daily for a week.

The sore has definitely improved, but it isn't gone. Vet said to watch another few days, that it might take 10 days.

After being gone five nights, found Kitty a little thinner and a little freaked out on return. But he is recognizing that we're back now.

Anyone have experience with Silver Sulfadiazine? Any suggestions?

Glad to be home, even with the heat and the cicadas.

Welcome home, Kathy.. saddened to hear about DFIL, thankful you could be there.
Sounds like Kitty missed you & is happy you are home.. I hate to hear that he isn't all healed, I don't know anything about the med you are questioning.. but am bumping your condo & continuing to think of you two. :-D

Welcome back, Kathy! I'm sorry for the loss of your DFIL, my condolences to you and your family.

I wish I could help you, but no experience here with Silver Sulfadiazine cream 1%. I looked it up (I'm sure you did too!) and it says it's an antibacterial, antifungal used for burns, and the cream base moisturizes, so it sounds like a good choice? Hopefully others will chime in who can actually help you!

I'm sure Kitty is happy to see you! Cicadas...ugh....got earplugs?

Thank you, Laurie! I didn't see that the cream was moisturizing. Maybe that explains why Kitty doesn't seem to mind having it applied. Sounds soothing.

I am one person not too bothered by the noise of the cicadas. I have a little tinnitus, so it all sounds the same to me! But swarms of disgusting, red-pop-eyes landing on everything? THAT bothers me. Still, after the last week, I have a better sense of what matters and what doesn't.

Jaime said he hasn't used it in a long time but it's a salve used on burns and it should be fine for Kitty just could take longer to heal than a steroid medication....back to work but for Kitty I took a break :)

Caryl, thank you for asking Jaime! :-D We were first offered Dermacool, but that has the steroid, so on our way out of town, we just asked for something else, and this was what they gave us. We went to the nearby local vet because of time. I wonder whether I would have gotten better options at the larger animal hospital, but we just didn't have the time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your DFIL. I hope your DH is doing OK.
Thanks, Sienne. He is functioning.
