Ooter has tested at 89 mg/dL. Should we still give him his insulin? That was just before he ate after not eating for two hours. What is the normal range and how do we know when to and to not give insulin if there is any time we shouldn't?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

No... you shouldn't give insulin... until you gather and record some testing history... so you know how he'll respond... you shouldn't give insulin if he tests below 200.

Good idea to skip when the pre shot test is an 89. Data gathering is key so you build up a reference base on his responses. That will be your guide. I suggest you post on the Lantus forum for advice. It's a large, busy forum and can seem overwhelming but there are very knowledgeable people over there to guide you. :)

I see that you don't have a meter yet. Who did the test for you? Was it at home?

Oh actually I do! I just need to update my signature. Thanks for pointing that out. It's a ReliOn that was sent to me with some other supplies. I'm doing the testing. We are just doing it twice a day right now while he gets used to it. I will update my signature ASAP.

We are both still anxious about the testing. He has been giving me the stink eye. But we are getting there.
