Okay, still VERY new to this at less than a week in...took the PM BG, fed my DK Coleman and put down wet for all 6 civies...and forgot to give him his shot...insulin was out for ~45 min but it was in its box and had all of the med info sheets that came with it around it and it was still fairly cold...had to give Coleman his shot...was this okay? is the insulin still good? worried!!! nailbite_smile

yeah i'd say it is just fine. people have left it out for several hours by mistake and it's been fine. it may shorten it's life span a little if you do it too often but we're talking you might get 3 months out of it instead of 4 kind of thing

whew...I feel somewhat better now knowing that it was okay to give to Coleman...I felt that given his situation that it was probably better to give it than to put up a post and hope a reply came soon!

yes, I am home testing...4xday at roughly 6 hour intervals...he just started all of this this week, and so far only 1 test below 200, and it was not a dose-time test, it was in between...his pre-injection reading was 243...my DH will be making the SS for Coleman, so sorry nothing for anyone to reference yet

I also got my ketostrips today and tested him (he had really high ketones when they did his tests Monday, but they were way down by Wednesday) and it showed none :-D

The manufacturer says it is good for 30 days unrefrigerated at normal room temperature. Leaving out for a short period of time like yo did may mean that you will not be able to use all the insulin before it loses it effectiveness.
