anybody out there use the One-Touch Delica device do to home tests? Any advice on the setting to use for kitties?

thanks :)

I use the setting at 5 because Tucker's ears are well trained to bleed. I'll try it on a non-FD and see if that setting works on an untrained ear. I'll let you know.

ETA: tested my civvie Sam, we used the setting of 7 to get enough blood.

I use it for Max, when I first started I had to crank it up to 7 or 8 to get enough blood, and was still getting frustrated, so finally I just took the cap off, dialed it back to the lowest setting and use it that was. So basically I'm half free handing it, and half using the spring load so I don't chicken out and "pull" the poke.

The spring loaded action and the pen itself gives me a little more stability to when poking, but I can see where I'm poking easier without the cap on. Trying to free hand it the lancet was just too little to hang on to while wrestling Max and trying to keep the other cats out of the way. So this way I have something reasonable to hang on too, and still get a nice quick poke to the ear.

Hope that helps, Oh and don't forget to warm up his ear first it really really helps alot.

I use it on Bailey. I use the #7 setting and it works great. It is very quiet but I find it a little hard to cock with Vaseline on the fingers.

thanks everyone.

i find doing these BG tests..pricking eddie's little ears...to be the absolute hardest thing to do. i can't stand it when he lets out a little "me-ouch"...i feel just awful. and seeing the little bruises left behind just kills me.

sigh.

i warmed his ear and used vaseline for the first time tonight. great suggestions, got a good droplet of blood on the first try.
