I wanted to share some information I was able to obtain regarding studies currently going on with respect to new treatments/management of Feline DM. I believe all are still actively enrolling participants. It is exciting to see the possible future treatments & management :)! I look forward to seeing results!!

There is a world wide Remission Study going on at multiple sites in the U.S. & around the world studying Bydureon, which is a GLP-1 analog, believed to be able to help control diabetes in general. In order to determine if it will work as well in cats as it does in humans in controlling diabetes, they are first studying the drug in cats that are already in remission (insulin independent diabetics).

The remission study is currently in the following locations if you have interest:

UC Davis CA
Ohio State University
Texas A&M
University of Florida
Royal Vet College London
Melbourne Australia (Animal Diabetes Australia)

**They are open to adding additional locations if there are vets interested & there are pets that qualify.

This is the link from TAMU to see what the study is about/involves:

In addition, there are a few other studies at major academic settings including:

1) Once Weekly Insulin Study: Novel Insulin already used in pilot study at UC Davis in CA & showed very promising results. Eligibility: Any cat that is currently diabetic & no other serious medical issues can participate. You must be able to get to UF for this study.

University of Florida Small Animal Hospital

2) Toujeo Study: Already being used regularly in diabetic cats but the study is to learn more about dose range, frequency, etc. Eligibility: Any cat that is diabetic with no other serious medical issues can participate. You must be able to get to UF for this study.

3) Validation of the Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitor in Dogs & Cats with DM:
