According to Google's AI there looks to be a promising drug,
"In a recent study, it was presented a new form of insulin formulation (AKS-267c) that would only require once-weekly injections. The active molecule in this formulation is a fusion of synthetic insulin and the feline fragment crystallizable (Fc) region of immunoglobulins."

Is this drug out of the testing phase yet? Did it fail to deliver as promised? Wondering if anyone knows of anything about it.

Thanks for any info you have.

From a brief search, the pilot study for this drug took place in 2021. I've heard nothing since. One immediate consideration though is that the cats in the study had already been prescribed glargine and had achieved good glycemic control on that insulin. They were transitioned to the experimental drug and their glycemic control was maintained. What we don't know if whether a newly diagnosed cat will be able to achieve glycemic control with the experimental drug.

My other concern would be the risk for prolonged hypoglycemia. Any long acting drug is going to stay in a cat's system for a long time. If this drug lasts a week, if it drops numbers to symptomatic hypoglycemic levels, you could end up spending days closely monitoring your cat to prevent a hypoglycemic crisis or your cat would need to be hospitalized on a dextrose drip.

There's no mention of a pharmaceutical company that's marketing the drug. It may still be going through clinical trials. I do not think it's available.

FWIW, I would not rely on Google AI for information unless you do your own research as well.

Thanks! I suspected that it would not be a going thing because I also could not find anything later than 2022 and very little at that. LOL about Google AI - they get things wrong more than right. But it does give you an overview of where to dig for more items.
