Hello,
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=72500&start=50
Please those who know humulin R, ketone treatment, hydration, please come over and help Kathryn (nick - equine99) and Snowflake. Snowflake is a physically small kitty- not eating - per Kathryn she's dying and this is a last ditch effort to save her life. Kathryn does not have the $2,000 that it would take to hospitalize her. She plans to wake up every hour or two to administer humulin R, syringe feed, hydrate, etc. The thread is very long - "Le sigh. up 160 to 600 in an hour after tiny dose increase" BJM has been there, but Kathryn could use more support - I don't know if any PMs are speeding behind the scenes. She's in Foster City, CA. Please!!!
Sophie

Note: She is following veterinary guidance with the Humulin R and using doses of 0.5 units if the glucose is over 250. She is also checking Snowflake every 2 hours.

As most of us know, it may drop the glucose hard and fast and lasts roughly 4 hours.

And she appears to have logged off for the moment - may be grabbing some sleep.

She's updated the spreadsheet here
Glucose is barely budging.

Seeing progress on the spreadsheet:

from 430 to 341 (20% reduction, so more than just meter variance)
in 5 hours with 3 separate doses of R for a total of 1.9 units.

Kathryn is asking (on PZI) for advice to increase Humulin R insulin dose. I have no experience with that insulin. Anyone who could help? Sophie

Thanks for reposting here. I did end up giving 1 unit, and will re-test in 20 min after it's been an hour. I just finished syringe feeding her a bit, and as I held her afterwards she managed to muster up enough energy to give a little tail wag, so I think she's improving. The last reading I got for ketones was on the light end of moderate, while she had been on the dark end of moderate, so that's a slight improvement.

Hello,
Snowflake and Kathryn are still handling a very critical issue at home. I want members to be very aware of the situation - that's why I'm bumping this post up. Sophie

Good luck to Katherine and prayers to Snowflake! Wish I lived nearby to give Kathryn a break and for her to get some much-needed sleep. (((HUGS)))
