i wrote here on late april regarding siujim diabetes problem.
at that time, we worried because it's been 4-5 months after using lantau and she didn't respond it very well after the 1st month.
she started with 1 unit and now to 4.5 unit, she is only 2.7kg (6p)

pls note spread sheet for details:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... utput=html

she is not doing well so vet doubted it might be because of pancreatitis that causes insulin resistance.

the blood tests on TLI and PLI shows sign of pancreatitis
serum folate -- 11.6 (normal: 8.5-20) this one is normal
TLI 372 (normal is 35-130)
PLI 6.2 (>5.4 is sign of pancreatitis )

vet mentions, they don't have a treatment for pancreatitis and only gives me supplement for liver support and pancreas support.
SAM-e, CoQ10, Vit.E, super digestive enzymes, potassium supplement (as her K+ level was lower than normal)

may i ask for your comments?
are there any other suggestions?
is there anyone caregiver here with your cats with also pancreatitis? what is your experience?

is it possible that by taking those supplement, cats will gradually accept lantus?

is it a good thing to do changing to another type of insulin as she is not react to it?

thxxxx very much.

Hello...I don't have experience with pancreatitis but I am sure others will come along today to help out. All I can offer is lots of hugs and support. :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

thxxxx so much.

pancreatitis is such a difficult disease to deal with. it fact, usually it causes diabetes problem but not the other way round. but it is hard to diagnosed (we have to send blood sample all the way to UK for testing). it has no direct cure and the problem is that it causes resistance to insulin. and it will affect liver/gallbladder inflmation as well.

thxxx again.
yes, let's hope some caregivers here have encounted similar siutations.

pain meds (buprenex/buprenorphine) and subQ fluids (lactated ringer's) have helped cleo the most during pancreatitis attacks, as has injectable famotidine (pepcid). the pain meds we use can be given every 8 hours.

have you read the stickies at the top of the Lantus forum? among them the tilly protocol (also linked in my signature) shows you how to work the dosing. might help to re-read the stickies.

There may not be a specific drug to treat pancreatitis but it can be treated. Do you have famotidine (Pepsid in the U.S.) available? Please take a look at this link that Jojo (a very experienced FDMB member and a vet tech) wrote on pancreatitis. Pain meds and supplements for support are helpful but the famotidine is a key way to help Siujim.

thx. i read that link already. some one sent me before.

i was thinking... if there are other folks having similar isutations can share their ways to deal with the disease, it will be good.

also, she doesn't have any pain, active, purrs, eats ok.
sometimes vomit though.

so vet doesn't give me asny pain-meds.

will do sub-q tomorrow.
how regular is the sub-q?
do it every day 50ml? she is not too dehydrated.
