I am so glad I got that ReliOn meter. Just checked (he's 10am & 10 pm)...369 before eating! Vet is closed. Only have had him do 2 units...even one I guess cuz the other meter wasn't accurate. I will just do the 2 units then. He is easily startled, and people are popping off fireworks already. Is 2 units gonna be enough???

If you are newly diagnosed don't panic and raise the dose based on the pre-shot number. You need to get multiple readings with some mid-cycle before raising the dose. Pre-shot numbers can be high from too much or too little insulin. Right now you don't what's happening. 369 also isn't a disastrous reading.

U sure? I just got a new meter today...thankfully I got my rent rebate check. 369 is the highest it's been...but then again I can't say for sure since apparently the other meter was off. I got the ReliOn Confirm. Just gave the 2 units. Oh boy! Thanks for your help!

The important thing now is to test in a few hours to find out how low 2 units takes him. Some cats will bounce high at the end of a cycle if their dose is too high. Take a deep breath, you'll be get the hang of this, I promise. Glad you are home testing it's a big step towards getting him regulated.

How long should I wait to re-test? A million thanks to all of you for such concern and caring!!

Really important note: Insulin doses are based on how low the glucose drops.

When using PZI or ProZinc, once you have more data from pre-shot tests to mid-cycle tests, it is possible to develop a sliding scale for dosing, based on the response of a dose with a given range of pre-shots.

I'm saving this post. Thank you...but my head is spinning. Need sleep but will check his blood sugar before I hit the pillow.
