Hi Jen, I'm a relative newcomer, but I'm glad to meet you, Champ and Kaniak.
In my experience and reading here in the last almost year and a half, the three top recommended and effective insulins are Lantus, Basaglar and Levemir (the depot insulins). You can read about them
HERE
Very expensive in the US but many members buy them from Marks Marine Pharmacy in Canada for 1/3 to 1/2 price, and get the pens instead of vials to be able to use to the last drop.
I have read that a few members were able to get the Lantus from other pharmacies at less expense using a coupon. I hope those members can elaborate on that.
Prozinc is just for cats and also works well for many, it's an in & out insulin and is less expensive than the depot insulins. Some members order from Chewy.com for reasonable price. Info about Prozinc

You probably already know about the low carb wet diet recommendations for sugar cats, all cats really, and we have the
Food Chart to refer to, to verify commercial brands below 10% carbs. Idjit started out with Friskies pates and Fancy Feast Classics because we could find them right at the local grocery. Changing his diet with a very short period of insulin therapy got him right into remission.
Since you have been down this road before you know about testing but if you need any refresher info, holler. There are lots of tips and videos for you to look at.
Wishing you and Kaniak the very best.
