I have a Lantus insulin pen that is approx 10 months old that has been in the back of my refrigerator that still has about a quarter left in it. I am wondering if it is still safe to use. My Christopher has been OTJ for about 6 months and today his BG was 358 and then an hour later 331. I cant get any new insulin until tomorrow after noon. Is it safe to give him a shot of the old insulin I found in the fridge. It has been open for about 10 months. Any help welcome. Thanks

I think it would be safe to use...whether it would be effective is another question

Have you had Christopher checked for signs of a urinary tract infection or needing a dental cleaning? Those are the two top reasons for cats coming out of remission

I'd probably just wait until I could get a new supply if you're just now noticing his numbers going up. A few extra days isn't going to make a lot of difference, but if you start using insulin that's lost it's efficacy and then get new, you'd be taking chances with the dose

personally i wouldnt do it.

waiting another day is safer than giving old, possibly compromised insulin.

thats just me.
