Moving here since we are on meds now. :)

Her BG this morning was 474 and we had a round of blood work done due to the recent weight loss and medical history of gallstones (better safe than sorry). I'm adding her blood test results to my template in a sec.

Just gave her the first round of ProZinc - 1u. However, her BG was 246 right before I gave her a shot. Are fluctuations like this normal? While she was as the vet, she had a few shots but I was given the go ahead to dose her tonight. She had a cerenia injection and then some fluids because her hydration was a bit low.. Would that affect BG level?

You want to be sure that the fluid injection is in a different location than the insulin injection. It can alter absorption of the insulin.

And yes, the glucose levels fluctuate. About 2 hours after a meal, there tends to be a food spike in the glucose.
About +5 to +7 hours after a ProZinc injection, you expect to fine the lowest glucose level, or nadir.

Okay, thanks for the all of the great info @BJM ! So when I wake up and test her at +5 hours and we are above 50, we're good and I don't need to be concerned that hypo may happen? Or if it's close, should I keep testing?

You can get an idea if she's dropping fast by checking about +2 hours after the shot.
If she's had quite a drop, it may be necessary to intervene and feed high carb food or a few drops of Karo syrup on low carb food.

I don't think that's too fast but hopefully you'll get a more experienced opinion soon. Will you be up for a +3?

I have an alarm set to make sure i get up for the +5! Do you think I need to check at +3 also? I'm just paranoid since this is her first dose, EVER.

If 1.2 * low number is greater than 0.8 * high number, the numbers are within 20% of each other and may be considered the same.

246 * 0.8 = 196.8 is less than 198 * 1.2 = 237.6, so the numbers are essentially the same.

I think you'll be fine skipping the +3 if you're going to get a +5. If you get a low number and don't know what to do, post on the main health forum with "urgent" or something in the title. There are more eyes over there.

It looks like you might need to start even lower with the prozinc. Only 1 U gave you an un-shootabe number. You can definitely tell the prozinc is working though which is great!

Yup, a dose reduction is definitely a good idea but hopefully the prozinc is what Thaiger needs. I know it worked well for Hidey. He was on vetsulin and diet change for a month, his numbers kept going up and up. Demanded prozinc and within a month with diet, and a cleaning with 2 extractions he went into remission. He's been in remission almost a year now, and my fingers are crossed that it continues.

Wow! Those numbers are interesting. Keeping a low dose is good. We can always go up if needed.
