Off Topic Kidney Disease Dog

This is a little off topic, but I know you’re all very knowledgeable so I thought someone here might know. My dog (a miniature schnauzer) has been diagnosed with kidney/liver disease. The vet is pushing prescription diet which not only is very expensive but he refuses to eat it! This dog eats anything! I know loss of appetite is a symptom of the kidney disease but I don’t feel that’s the issue bc he constantly looks for any food that isn’t the prescription diet. Does anyone know where I can find reliable information about alternative healthy feeding for kidney disease? We’ve asked the vet but they haven’t been very helpful. Quite frankly I just don’t think they know the answers to the food questions we’re asking. I was hoping there was a form somewhere like this but for dogs with kidney issues. Thank you for any direction you can provide.

Give the k9diabetes.com website a shot perhaps? I've been nosing around there trying to find diet information as well but they don't seem terribly active, at least nothing like us. You may find some knowledge there.

We fostered a dog with bad kidneys. The Royal Canin kd helped, something to do with phosphorus levels. It comes in different flavors but he wasn't that picky.
