Odd question! What can you use to make food dishes that are safe for cats?

I know weird question. We're trying to get smokey using the pet safe 5, but the dishes are to too deep for him to eat out of. He can't get the food out of the bottom, and I hear him snorting the food up his nose when he tries to eat out of it. I noticed when we first adopted him, that he would only eat out of shallow dishes, and we've always had shallow dishes for him.

So, what I'm thinking is I could make dishes to fit the Petsafe out of clay to raise the food (he only eats very small amounts at a time so it doesn't fill the compartment at all, there's lots of room). I'm wondering what kind of finish could I use on them that would be safe for him?

Anyone have any ideas? Or differnt materials I could make costume fit dishes out of?

A lot of people buy little glass bowls to fit in the autofeeder or I've used little ceramic "soy sauce" dipping dishes as Carter gets bad chin acne from plastic.

Williams-Sonoma makes a perfect size tiny plate. They are called dip bowls. They fit perfectly in the pet safe 5 openings. I added a small plastic cup turned over to elevate the dip bowl to almost level with the top. The feeder still turns with this as well.

I can't take credit for finding these. I saw them posted a few months ago on here by Jayla and Marje I think.

Could I ask a huge favor? Any chance you guys could post a picture of how they fit...so, I can show my hubby?

I've gone out looking a few times, but everything I found sat too low. Hubby's been looking too, but couldn't find anything, that's why we were going to try to make them. This would be much easier, and I know it would be safe for him!

After you guys mentioning dipping dishes...I found one online at bed bath and beyond that might fit. Went up to see if they had it in the store...of course they don't. But stopped at the dollar store, just to have a look...you never know. My husband came walking up with little dog food things (Cesar entrees). I looked at him like...dog food?...for a diabetic cat that's the pickiest eater in the world and allergic to 70% of the foods out there! We just got him settled on a food again!... The containers it comes in fit the Petsafe perfectly! Raises the food perfectly!

Will be giving them a try tonight, at least it's something until we get something better. Even if we order on line (always weary of shipping costs to Canada), it'll take a while for them to come in. If I do make the dishes, the finish they gave me needs 21 days to cure to a good hard finish.
