After a good night (down to 162) and AMPS of 229 Vyktors numbers have risen all day: +2 263; +4 290; +6 288; +8 302; +10 320. I gave him a scruff shot this morning and had no evidence that it was a 'fur shot'. In fact the vet clippered the fur off Vyktor's scruff to assist me learn how to do it so I have a clear view and I put my fingers behind the tent where I'm shooting so I can feel if the needles gone all the way through. I didn't smell anthing and there wawsn't a wet spot although he's only on 1.25U.

So my question is - could lantus from this morning still be lurking around in his system somewhere with a possibility that it could still kick in, like after I give him another shot in about 2 1/2 hours time?

I really hope the answer's no because I just gave him his PM shot!

What you re seeing is what we call a "bounce." A similar pattern occurred on 12/24. A bounce (or rebound) occurs when your cat drops into lower numbers than he's used to or if he drops fast. As a result, the liver reacts to what it presumes is a dangerous situation by dumping a stored form a glucose along with counterregulatory hormones into the bloodstream. This lifesaving mechanism causes BG numbers to spike. It's a normal reaction. The longer Vyktor spends in lower numbers, the more his body will re-acclimate to being in a normal BG range. It can take up to 72 hours for the bounce to clear.

The Lantus isn't going to sneak up and "hit" later.

Sienne know her stuff!

and Vyktor's mum...i don't know you well enough to know your sense of humor,
so I will apologize in advance if this doesn't make you laugh...
but I have a very graphic imagination- and when I read your post,
I pictured a vial of Lantus peeking cagily around the corner...waiting until your back was turned to pounce!

It's wonderful to see Vyktor responding so quickly...
unfortunately...we would all prefer that their livers would refrain from panicking and causing bounces

hope you and Vyktor have a good day :-D
