Very nice carb numbers! It's expensive though, at about $1.25 per 3oz can compared to FF at about .66 per can. I'm sure the ingredients are better quality than FF. I used to feed my cats Nutro dry before Dusty became diabetic.

Well done for getting that info. :)
And it's nice to see some zero carb foods there.

For the two foods that do list a carb content, I'm guessing that is the percentage by weight (?), in which case the 'percentage of calories from carbs' would be:

Senior Soft Loaf Chicken
Carbs = 0.5%
116 kcals/100g
Percentage of calories from carbs: 1.5%
(ie. 0.5 multiplied by 3.5 (standard multiplier for carbs), then divided by 116 kcals, then multiplied by 100)

Senior Minced Chicken & Salmon
Carbs = 1%
77 kcals/100g
Percentage of calories from carbs: 4.5%
(ie, 1 multiplied by 3.5 (standard multiplier for carbs), then divided by 77 kcals, then multiplied by 100)
.

The price does stink! They only make the smaller cans too. It goes on sale & you can get online for 1.00 per can but that is still pricey.

Thank you!!

I was so excited I ran out and bought some duck and chicken loaf for $1.29 at Petco. My civie who eats anything sniffed it suspiciously, took a couple of licks, and ran away :confused:. Dusty looked at it like it was a pile of poop and never got close enough to sniff or taste :eek:. Oh well, I'm sure if they were starving they'd eat it but for now it's back to FF; no need for self-induced food drama!

This is what I feed my non-diabetic cat. It IS kinda expensive, but most of the time when I buy it from Petsmart it is on sale anywhere from 90 cents to 1.18. Nutro sometimes has little cartons in the store you can use that will get you two free cans. Haven't seen any lately tho. I find it to be one of the best in regards to not having a ton of crap (no grains, no carrageenan, no starches, vegetables, fruit, etc). My only complaint is in the minced turkey there seems to be way more water weight than meat. If I understand right I think the canned food in gravy tends to have more carbs (due to the gravy) than pate food.

thanks for the tip! I will be checking out new options at our local Petsmart this week.

oh, those phosphorus numbers--is that considered low? I am looking for a low-carb-low-phosphorus canned food for Mr. Yowly over there... He just ate breakfast and you'd think he was still starving.

If I understand things correctly from doing some research, the dry matter phosphorous is supposed to be under 1.00%. So some of these foods look to be high in phosphorous. The soft loaf duck (1.07%) & soft loaf turkey (1.12%) look to be the lowest. I've done a few searches on here trying to find suggestions for low phos food for CRF kitties & came across a few helpful tips. I'm pretty sure someone posted a list of foods that are low carb low phos. somewhere on here. You may want to try doing a search.
