Hi everyone, just wondering about Nutro Max kitten canned...does anybody feed it? I need to put weight on Frazzle and figured the extra calories in the kitten food would be good. The chicken and liver formula is listed on Binkys list with 6% carbs. Now my question is, I was reading the ingredients on the can and they listed egg and rice. Aren't those added carbs? I'm wondering if they changed their formula and now Binkys is not correct? Here is the link to the ingredients...http://www.nutro.com/natural-cat-food/m ... liver.aspx

Can I assume that a canned food that says grain free on it is automatically low in carbs? I was looking at Wellness Healthy Indulgence pouches which say grain free but they have starches like potatoe and rice bran in them. I'm confused!!! :?

Re: Nutro Max Kitten

If you're looking for a high calorie food that's low in carbs, try Wellness kitten, turkey, or chicken flavors. Those are what I used to keep weight on Gabby and it worked very well. EVO is also low carb and high calorie.

Egg is low carb and a perfectly fine ingredient in cat food (very digestible protein for cats),but I would avoid things with rice. I believe someone did get the as-fed values for the Wellness pouches a while back and they were too high in carbs for a diabetic. If you really want to feed one, make sure you call and get the as-fed values first to confirm. Wellness is very good about being free with that information.
