Hi all
I have a general nutrition question. Unable to find answers elsewhere and you guys were so helpful when my cat Tansi was so ill with diabetes and fip. (He is healthy and well now)
My other cat Bill has severe IBD. I have tried almost everything you can imagine to help him. Miraculously he thrives with no symptoms on Stella and Chewy freeze dried turkey. Now it is impossible to find due to avian flu.
I have some ordered but it will not arrive until next week at the earliest.
I have tried raw turkey. I have tried high end wet food turkey. I have tried cooked turkey. I have tried other brands of freeze dried turkey. They are all no go.

My question is: can I try him on human canned turkey if I rinse it, for about a week? INGREDIENTS ARE
Turkey
Mechanically separated turkey
Water
Autolyzed Yeast
Salt
Sodium Phosphate

I think he might eat it because of the texture compared to when I make it which he refuses.

Thank you so much for any thoughts.

I’m not sure feeding that would be great for a week (and more so if longer). Feeding the canned stuff even if rinsed might still contain too much sodium and the meals will be incomplete without the taurine, minerals and vitamins that are found in the canned/pre-made foods.

Have you tried other novel proteins? Rabbit, venison, Duck, buffalo… all the proteins he’s never had before? Rawz, hound&gatos, identity and koha pet all have really great limited ingredient foods.

Apologizing ahead, I did see you mentioned that you gone above and beyond finding something that will work but maybe you haven’t tried these so worth me mentioning.

I wish you good luck, hope you get that food soon or find something that will work!

Yes I have tried many novel proteins including duck, goose, kangaroo, goat, rabbit, raw, canned, home cooked, and the hi end brands like rawz and tiki.
I had been concerned about the sodium too. I think what I will do is pick up a some rawz canned turkey and mix it with purebites turkey and a tiny bit of rinsed human canned. He is such a little bugger, if he doesn't like what is served he will just stop eating completely and he can't afford to lose weight. Thanks again for your thoughtful answer. Happy holidays!

My cat Simon has IBD. Even though I normally would not suggest prescription food, at least for diabetics, he seems to be doing well on Hills Z/D which is a hydrolyzed protein. Maybe you can get a few cans from your vet to help until his normal food comes in. Simon was diagnosed a couple months ago and his weight loss has stopped since being on the Z/D, but I am planning on switching him over to a raw food diet after he has his followup appointment next week.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately Bill will not eat hydrolyzed protein. I am glad your kitty likes it. You may be thrilled at the progress your kitty makes on a raw diet.

Anything that is not formulated for cats will not be nutritionally complete. However, you can add a pre-mix to the food which will supply all of the necessary supplements (e.g., taurine). Many people here use EZComplete.

Have you tried the Stella & Chewy's Duck, Duck, Goose? I'm wondering if Bill has a texture thing going and the Stella & Chewy's texture is different from most foods.

Hi and thanks
Yes have tried duck duck goose but no one will eat it!
So far I have been mixing what is left of the stella chewy turkey and mixing with rabbit.
Diarrhea this morning ugh
Fingers crossed on delivery soon. I have ordered 20 bags!
