Hello everyone,

I have been out of town so no tests for Riley the past day and a half. His dose is now 2.5 units and his test tonight was 488.

Cherie sorry to hear Riley's numbers aren't coming down. It can take some time for you to find the right amount of insulin. Is it possible that Riley has some other health issues?
If possible you should get more tests in on each cycle. It is possible he is going lower than possibly bouncing back up.
It is really important to get those tests in each cycle. Are you following the SLGS or TR?

It is frustrating when their numbers just aren't coming down. I went through the same thing with Jack. It could just be he is going to need more insulin. I've seen cats needing as little as a drop or more then 100u a day. Every cat is different and lots of medications, health issues and diet can have a big effect on their insulin requirements.

Not sure what TR means. Marje has asked me to post daily. Tomorrow I will raise his dose .25 for four cycles, test, and raise again. I will try to get more vet testing done if we can't get his numbers down soon.

Any suggestions or others experiences help me alot.

Also, I have tested several times a day except when gone one day a week and his numbers remain high with very little variations. In fact, sometimes he responds with lower numbers for a day and then climb right back up.

Those are the most important bits of information - because the low numbers can CAUSE the high numbers. When you're looking at dosing, the low numbers decide what you do with the dose.

Can you make sure and get a test this evening before going to bed?

Is he off of the supplement that was being added to the amoxicillin? And did you get any answers about whether or not the amoxicillin itself has any sweetener in it?

Not to plague you with questions - still wearing my detective hat to try to figure out why Riley has so many high tests.

Hi Cherie

Well at least with the tests you have, we are seeing more pink and red and less black. If you can test now as you were before you left, I'd try increasing the dose every 4 cycles by 0.25u and see if we continue to make progress.

I quit giving him the Amoxicillan before I left on my trip.
ok, so it doesn't look like it's not the Amoxicillin or the sweetener that are giving him high numbers. Check that possibility off the list. It's good to have eliminated it - we have definitely seen meds increase blood sugar, so at least we know that isn't the reason in Riley's case.
