Hi all,

Lola's been OTJ for about 20 days, but her numbers have been creeping up the past few days and this morning she was 217 :(

I did not shoot this morning, but I'm thinking I should start her back on 0.5 units lantus tonight if her PMBG is high - over 200? or should I start back up even if she reads lower?

I'm really worried that since her BG's have been hovering in the 100's it's going to be difficult to know when to shoot and when not to...

Thanks for the support.

Rachael

Yes, I think you are right that Lola is needing a bit of insulin again. With OTJ, we want them to stay under 150 and in double-digits for the majority of the time. She doesn't seem to be able to maintain that right now. The .5u sounds like a good starting dose for right now to see how she does.

Has something changed recently? A new food? Maybe she has an infection of some sort? How are her teeth?

Same food. She is eating the Wellness canned lo-carb varieties (chicken, beef/chicken, turkey).

No infection or teeth issues that I know of, however she hasn't been seen by the vet / had lab work since Oct 9th (not counting the blood curve 10/14). She had jaundice and "liver dysfunction most likely due to inflammation" when she was hospitalized and diagnosed with diabetes was sent home with some Denamarin, which she hasn't been taking since the rx ran out. I don't know if her liver is (or will be) an ongoing issue or if it was only related to complications from the diabetic crisis. We have considered taking her to an internal medicine specialist our vet referred us to, but it is expensive - because her BGL's were doing well, we wanted to see how she did first being off the insulin for awhile with home monitoring.
