jose' was diagnosed five years ago, but i did not start testing until december of this year. i have put her numbers into the googles spreadsheet. the first thing i realized is that her numbers are all over the map, but then realized her dosing is all over the map as well. i have been tweaking her @ every reading. am i causing problems? i am concerned w/hypo in the short term & her progressive neuropathy in the long. & in october she was at 10 units 2x day & still had excessive water output & input. yes, that was with a u40 syringe. & she is not gaining or losing weight. i don't understand.

Tried your ss link but it's not working.
I am not clear on the insulin you are giving - u40 are for vetsulin and prozinc - but 10u BID is alot of insulin.
Could you fix your ss link please and also please kindly confirm jose's current dose, insulin and the syringes being used.
Thx so much
ETA: are you giving B12 for the neuropathy, or something else?

Tracy,

Try going back to your spreadsheet. Go over to the left under the title and choose File. Then Publish to the web. Copy that URL and replace the one in your signature with it.

If you have trouble, send me a pm.

i will look @ the ss link

we are using prozinc & u40 syringes & she was taking 10 units twice a day. i can't believe i didn't kill her. vet says with her weight she could go as far as 15 units twice a day. she weighs about 23 lb. she has not been tested for acromegaly, but does not present with any physical symptoms. thanks

Tracy,
I've been SO worried about you, Jose, Rowdy and your whole family - still praying Rowdy will come home. Brain not working well enough to look at ssheet but wanted to stop by and get a hug.

Yes, the spreadsheet works! Actually her numbers don't look bad at all. I do think it might be a good idea to pick a dose and stick with it a few cycles. Once you get some numbers on that dose, you will have a good idea whether to raise or lower. We generally say to change the dose by .25 units.

On 12/24 you got 188 and shot 1.75. Today, you shot .75 on 188. Have you already shot tonight?

shot tonight - she was at 306 and i gave 2 units (u40 syringe).

yes, my dosing has been erratic. i think i look back at the previous am/pm numbers & take that into consideration. should i stick with 2 units unless she drops below 200.

i am worried about her continued (and worsening) neuropathy. and why didn't her water in/outtake decrease when she was at that high dose of 10 units twice daily?

I don't know what was going on with the high dose. She may have been in constant rebound?

I think 2 units tonight was a good dose. Now if you can find how it works. Can you get a number before you go to bed? Any chance you could set the alarm for 6 hours after the shot, wake up and get a number? That will really help you see how the 2 units worked on a 300 number. Then you would know what to do with your next dose.

If that's too hard (and I know it can be) could you get some numbers in the morning cycle?

The more data you get, the clearer the picture - the easier and more effective dosing becomes.

i got the 3+ read, but not the 6+. I should be able to get the 3+ again today. & i am off tomorrow, so s/b able to get more reads. i did get a 5+ read on christmas day.

i'm thinking i should stick with the 2u for a few days unless she drops below 200.

jose was 394 tonight. seems high, but i was late getting home 30 minutes. gave her 2units - that puts her at 2 units for five of the last six shots. would it be safe to up her tomorrow .25?

Gayle Shadoe & Oliver, i'm sorry i missed your reference to the b12 for neuropathy earlier. can you tell me more? i hate to see jose' struggling to get around. she basically limits her days to just one room. she does get some very nice sun in the afternoon (generally on her back), but she used to get out more. thank you.

Hard to know what she might have been 30 minutes earlier. With some cats, once the insulin is gone they shoot up. If she had been in the lower 300s, it would have been about the same as yesterday. And I wonder of she got down in the greens at nadir.

I think increasing by .25 would probably be okay, but I wouldn't mind seeing some more midcycle numbers at this dose. Up to you - be sure you can monitor when you change.
