Can anyone tell me the number of carbs in Royal Canin Hyoallergenic dry food please?
I am helping a CG on an Australian Raw Fed site whose vet has put the cat on steroids and this dry food for a skin allergy. I told her it was high carb and then couldn't find the info to tell her how high.
Thanks Bron

Hi Bron, just looked this up on a UK site and it has this nutrional info (first ingredient is rice?). Is this the same formula as the Australian food...?

Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Adult Dry Cat Food 4.5kg
Ingredients

Rice, hydrolysed soya protein isolate, animal fats, vegetable fibres, minerals, hydrolysed poultry liver, soya oil, beet pulp, fish oil, Fructo-Oligo- Saccharides (FOS), borage oil, marigold extract (source of lutein).
Analysis
Crude ash: 6.3%. Crude fibre: 3.6%. Crude oil fats: 20%. Moisture: 5.5%. Protein: 25.5%.

This nifty calculator (link below) makes it 34.55% calories from carbs. (And I just double checked that on another calculator, same result.)

Hi Eliz, yes that's the one. Thanks so much. Rice is first ingredient. Vet swapped her cat from a raw diet to this! And added a steroid. Sigh!
Thanks for the calculator info too.
I hope you are well and keeping safe in the UK.

Oh my goodness. That food is made of carbs. I would seriously consider not going with the vet on that one. I would also reconsider the steroid. I know you have to deal with the skin allergy. Have you tried unusual proteins for her raw food, such as duck, rabbit, or bison? Have you tried an allergy med that isn't a steroid, such as zyrtec or benadryl?

Oh, and I wanted to add, has she had a flea treatment lately? Often, skin reactions are caused by fleas, and a single flea can cause them. I've got 3 cats with serious flea allergies, and even when I can't find any signs at all of them having fleas, a flea treatment always clears it right up.
