Hi there. I posted on main page but need help. My cat was diagnosed on Feb 28th. She was put on ProZinc. Started on 1 unit twice a day. Three days later was increased to 2 units twice a day. Four days later was increased to 3 units twice a day. Then 4 days after that increased to 4 units twice a day. She was still having high reading and was switched to Novolin N two days after that at 3 units twice a day. She was still having readings of 500-600 and increased to 4 units twice a day less than a week on the Novolin. She does not seem like she can handle the Novolin as I was also told it’s harsh for them. She is 17 with other health issues. I’m taking to another vet tomorrow. I don’t know if I should give 4 units of Novolin tonight or use the ProZinc I have. Or what dose. Or use nothing until I get another opinion. She doesn’t eat a ton before as she’s not liking her new diet. I feel like my vet who is a specialist in oncology doesn’t know how to treat the diabetes because I feel three weeks and all the changes have been horrible for her. Don’t know what I should do.

Hi, my old man Tiger also read real high take a look see at his spread sheet. My Vet took him off the Prozinc and put him on Vetsulin 7u's which is faster acting but doesn't stay in their body 12hrs. It lasts in Tiger for about 10 then his readings are high before his next shot.

Your kitty may need some time to stabilize on one insulin or the other as well as adjust to her new diet. Looks as though you are testing. Very import to do so, at least, at pre-shot and mid-cycle as often as you can get a test. I can't tell from your post if the high readings are the preshots or mid cycle. If preshot, you may be getting some bounce if kitty is dropping too low mid-cycle. FWIW, my kitty has been on Novolin N since the beginning. Still has some high preshots depending on what else is going on. Hang in there. There is much to learn and adjust to for both of you.

My regular vet changed her back to ProZinc starting back at 2 units. How long should she stay on one dose before an increase? She was up to 4 units on ProZinc before but it was very fast. And on 4 units with the Novolin. She is still getting readings of over 600 pre shot. She has only been back on ProZinc 2 units for two days.

We need to see our standardized format spreadsheet before we are able to answer a question like that.
