Not wanting food. Insulin time

Oscar has vomited today. Doesn’t want to eat. Shot time soon. 9u lantus. If his numbers are in the 300’s can I give him insulin?

Not eating on his own. I have been syringe feeding every hour since 7 pm. Chicken pate with water so I could get thru the syringe, about a teaspoon each time. He has kept it down. Gave him 7 U , instead of his normal 9 cause he was 234 almost 4 hours ago and I didn’t know how much I could get him to eat. If he won’t eat on his own in the morning we will go to urgent care.

At the emergency vet. Their urgent care said since he was diabetic he should be seen by emergency (same practice). He went to the food this morning but would not eat. Syringe feed some and came here. He was hiding. So I expect $$$$. Just hope he is okay.

Going to food, then sniffing and not eating is likely nausea. He needs anti nausea meds. See if you can get a prescription for ondansetron if you don't have some already.

I notice on the spreadsheet that he was given budesonide. Is that the anti inflammatory pill you are giving for a month? Why does he need it? Just wondering what condition he might have that is causing him to feel nauseous.

Good luck at the vet today.

The budesonide was given instead of prednisone because of the mushy stinky stool. Didn’t do a thing. Don’t know why he felt nauseous.

Okay. After 3 hours…probably a pancreatic flare. Will give him fluids, an anti nausea shot, a dosage of gabapectin and an appetite stimulant. Going home with Cerenia pill, gabapectin, and and said he should eat tonight but if not give 1/2 dose of lantus. Should be back to himself by morning.

they ran bloodwork but nothing shouted out to them. Abdomen a little tense is what she said. I told her I ordered the probiotic probile (?) that was mentioned on the other site. She said that was good. ( I think the strong liver smell of the flortiflora didn’t help the nausea. )

There is a blood test they can do for pancreatitis. More info here: A Primer On Pancreatitis It can take more than overnight to get over a pancreatitis flair. Keep treating him until he seems better. Remove one med at a time. Ondansetron is better than Cerenia for anti nausea, though Cerenia is better if there is vomiting.

If possible, see if you can test for ketones. Inflammation (pancreatitis) and inappetance and not enough insulin are a bad recipe that can lead to DKA.

The Proviable is a good probiotic.

Still at ER vet so when I get out and look at my paperwork and dosage instructions I will update.

So he ate about a teaspoon when we got home and another at 6:30. Oh she gave me 4 cans of the prescription food because she wanted something bland. I opened the digestive one.

Maybe you can return the other unopened cans. They are all too high in carbs for a diabetic cat. You could always try something like all meat baby food. Beechnut and Gerbers make them. Cats usually like them and they are OK for a few meals, though not complete so not good for long term.

Too bad they gave you Mirtazapine. Mirataz is the same drug in ointment form that you rub in their ears. It's much easier to give and less likely to have side effects. It's an appetite stimulant. Make sure you give it at a separate time from the Cerenia. You don't want to give an appetite stimulant to a nauseous cat.

I just warmed up some fancy feast chicken pate and he had some bites of it. I will get some baby food tomorrow.

Got some Beechnut chicken with broth and he ate one teaspoon, came back for another, then a 3rd.

Thanks for the suggestion of baby food. He ate the whole jar. Three trips to the dish .
