Booger's Mom

Member Since 2018
So I took Booger to the vet on 4/24 for them to draw blood for the fructosamine test and to do a quick exam. Before we left, I sprayed the carrier with a calming spray and even gave him one of those calming treats with melatonin and chamomile to help keep him calm. When we get to the vet's office, they think I am dropping him off. I was like noooo... They were just supposed to take him back do a quick exam and withdraw blood. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. Would we go in a room? or would they just take him back? They ended up just taking him back and he was back there for like 20-30 minutes. I didn't think what was needing to be done would even take that long. No one came out to tell me anything as far as the exam except that his blood sugar would be high due to stress which I knew. It really makes me upset and wonder what happened back there... His numbers have been way off since the vet visit. I even opened the new vial of vetsulin and I am using that now because I thought the old bottle may have gone bad but nope. I am really wondering what happened and is happening with his levels.

I always ask to stay with my kitties when we go to the vet. At first my vet seemed taken aback by my request; he had come from a high-dollar practice and I don't think he was used to having "hands-on" clients. But he now tries to do most everything in the exam room, that they would normally take a cat into "the back" for. I mean, some things just have to be dealt with in "the back" but stuff he would usually take a cat back for, like putting staples in a cut leg and changing bandages, etc, he does for me in the exam room. I have a wonderful vet!

Baby’s first hypo when I was at the emergency vet.. they tried to take her away & I got really upset! Then they explained the way things work there. One large exam room with all pets in sight. They did put me in a room to wait & quickly brought her back to me with food & Karo. Which I now know I could have done this at home! I don’t want her out of my sight for very long unles it’s a scheduled procedure like a dental- then I’m right back there. I always ask what they are doing & no meds until you explain why. Yes I’m picky but Baby’s had it rough from one idiot vet & that will never happen again! Stand your ground-be present.
This is huge for me.. I am sorry you are having trouble now & hopefully this will calm down & get back on an even keel. I guess I would call & ask them what they thought might be going on.

I do not know what is going on with his numbers. I mean I expected him to be off for a few days but its been a week now. Hopefully, he is getting back on track. PMPS was 205. Which is not normal for him but it could just be a bounce number. I understand them having to take him to the back to draw blood but why so long? He was 500 something this morning for his AMPS test and that just set my whole day off wrong. I was so upset. Before he was diagnosed and for a few weeks after he was acting like he didnt feel good and just laying around etc. which is pretty normal for him. The few weeks leading up to this last vet visit, I got to see a whole new side to him. He was acting real alert and curious, wanting to play with his siblings, even aggravating them to get them to play with him. Now, he is back to the way he was before and a starvin marvin.

glad he is getting back on track.... I too stay with my boys especially after a tech pushed to hard on the back leg for blood (I have no proof but 2 years later he still favors it). you may want to try pancreas booster or gluco ensure?

Never heard of those.. What are they?

Those are good BG nadirs over the past several days. Some nice blues. It's nice to hear that Booger is doing well.

I think vet visits can be traumatic. When we go, I talk to the kitteh most of the trip and keep them calm. Leo always growls, but never bites. Little Dude has become calmer over time.
