Quick recap-Katie went into remission exactly 3 years ago. She was actively diabetic for 1.5 years before that.

I know urine testing is a crude way to test, but I was never able to get blood from Katie when she was actively diabetic before, she is so wild and fractious. So I have tested her urine daily in the last 3 years. NEVER showed even a trace of sugar. I started making her food 3 years ago and I thought I had basically cured her. She has fatty blood (hyperlipemia) and have been making her a low fat diet, we all thought that was the underlying reason for her diabetes.

Three weeks ago, urine strip was sky high (brown on the stick), very suddenly. Everyday for 3 years it has been normal (or at least not high enough it spilled into her urine). The urine strip has been brown (very high) every day since. I had her overdue dental done on the 9th, hoping it was a infection raising her numbers. But they still remain high.
Started back on Lantus this week, just 4 days ago. 1 unit 2x day. Have tried home testing again, finally managed to get just one test done earlier in the week (Yay!), got 374 and 264 (from the same drop of blood).

Am still testing urine, and every single one has shown brown (highest) on the strip until a couple hours ago, got a urine sample that showed NO sugar.

Tried getting some blood to test, with no luck. Will continue to keep trying but if I cant, what should I do about her next shot? it's due in 2 hours.

I know the no sugar in her urine could just mean the insulin is helping, but that would mean none spilled in her urine in 8 hours, which is good...but of course I worry about hypo.
Especially since I dont know what brought her sugar levels back up, it seems like like I am going from one extreme to the other (at least with the urine tests). Like I said I am only day 4 of the insulin, I have no idea really how the insulin is effecting her yet. And we havent mastered the bloodtesting yet. I'm trying though!
Just dont know what to do about the next shot if I cant get blood again. WWYD?

Update-
I managed to get a test before her shot was due. Took 3 tries. I could only get enough blood for one reading (would have liked to get 2 to double check), but it was 176. I am using confirm micro. So I guess not to shoot, it's under 200.
It was her mealtime, so I fed her. She eats every 4 hours, when should I try for another test? That is if she will let me, unfortunately I think I hurt her getting this one, she jumped and howled.

Hi, katiesmom.

Im new here and new to FD but am in the UK and know most of the folk on here are probably sleeping right now.

I'm also not sure what advice to give you except that I don't shoot under a certain level some people are 250 and some more experienced ones do at 200 so I probably wouldn't give any at the minute. 250 is my limit although I am going to start giving lower doses so my number will be dropping to 200 at some point I guess.

My kitty really hates the blood testing, she was ok for a day then Back to protesting. I think it's for show mostly as soon as I'm done and let her go she is absolutely fine and wants stroked. She just doesn't like the indignity of it. I think.

I don't use those pee sticks for glucose just the ones for keytones - have you checked for those too?

Callie is really good about letting me test her. The only time she protests is just before dinner, when she is really hungry. Then I have to test while she is eating. If I think she might be running low that day, I will wrap her up in a towel like a kitty burrito so I can test her. I have found that it helps to get the blood on my thumbnail so I don't hold her for long. I can usually get enough blood for 2 tests. I always reward her with a snack, a brushing or some extra loves.
