Hey everyone- I'm new. My cat Cece was diagnosed August of last year. Things don't seem to be improving much and I'm a bit at a loss of what to do.

She started off at 2.5 units of Lantus insulin and now she's at 5 units. Her last glucose curve (yesterday) was in the 400s and dipped to 350 at it's lowest. The vet recommended using the freestyle libre but we've had bad luck with that. Our first one lasted two scans before the app said it needed to be replaced. The new one lasted overnight and so we were able to get a complete curve before it again apparently broke. I have her wearing a thundervest to keep her from kicking/scratching at it, but perhaps that's not enough.

She's eating fancy feast classic pate. No dry food. Her last bloodwork was mostly fine. No kidney issues and her liver is fine based on her blood tests last month. But she's struggling to keep weight on and I can tell her muscles aren't as strong. I'm just not sure what else I can do? When I search arounds it seems like 5 units of Lantus is super high, but it appears to be doing very little for her. And I switched to all wet food and the type recommended. What else is there? Any help/advice?

Welcome to FDMB!

It looks like you've been doing some reading and even better, that you've been home testing! It's hard to really have a handle on what's u p with Cece without more of your testing information. I'm linking a post we refer to as helping us to help you. You'll want to make sure you have all of the information about Cece in your signature and the post has a laundry list of information to include. In addition, there are instructions on how to set up a spreadsheet so we can follow along with Cece's progress. If you have been keeping track of her blood glucose (BG) levels, it would be helpful to include 2 weeks worth of data. The post also has information on how to use the spreadsheet. If you need help getting it set up, I'm tagging one of our members, Bhooma (@Bandit's Mom) who can lend a hand.

We tend to be very numbers driven. Having more information about how Cece is responding to Lantus will help us to offer informed recommendations or observations.

I'd also suggest you take a look at the sticky notes at the top of the Lantus forum. There's a great deal of information about Lantus, dosing methods, etc.

Sorry for all of the reading and extra homework. Please let us know if you have questions.

Welcome like Sienne setting up your spreadsheet would help us help you in order to see how the insulin is working. Reading all about lantus is helpful especially the 2 dosing methods, you would pick one to follow.
We don't base how many units to give going by the pre shots, we bade them on how low the dose is taking them.
We also feed our kitties more than twice a day. After the bigger meal in the AM and PM we feed 2 or 3 smaller snacks for both cycles.
If it wasn't for the advice the experienced members gave me Tyler wouldn't be in remission today.

Welcome!

There are a lot of very experienced people here that can help you, they will need more information on your test results and to know if Cece has any other health issues so if you could share that with us it would be great, you may need to make some dose adjustments but without the information is hard to say

And please don't hesitate to ask anything you need
