I've confused and the vet is closed.
My recently diagnosed cat, who has only been on insulin 3 days and also is on an antibiotic for a bladder infection, is refusing to eat this evening. She started being finicky this morning when she had only about an ounce of wet food and about 5 kibbles at shot time this morning. I picked up the leftovers before leaving for work.
Tonight she licked the wet food but didn't eat it. She ate about three kibbles when offered then went under the bed. She hasn't been drinking a huge amount of water today and had one normal size urination in the last 12 hours. She's walking normally but I think she's nauseated. No vomit around the house though.
Can I assume I don't give her any insulin unless she eats?

Right, if she isn't eating then you can't give her insulin. But you need to get her to eat, and at this point anything will do, lunchmeat, baby food (just make sure it doesn't have any onions in it), tuna, even dry food. If she doesn't start eating by morning you need to get her in to see the vet. Not eating for a kitty can be serious.

Thanks!
I have hopes that it is just the antibiotics making her nauseated.

FIngers and paws crossed that is all it is, I know some of those can make my stomach flip as well.

More likely than not it IS the anibiotics causing the yuckiness. If you kitty is licking her lips and shaking her head she is feeling yuck and wont eat until her tummy settles. It is bad when kitties don't eat and need meds but to not eat for a day is alright IF it is only a little while. Her tummy needs to settle. Make sure you try to feed her at least 30 minutes before you give the antibiotics also if she continues to feel yuck and wont eat you can try to settle her tummy with yogurt or IF needed try to give Pepcid AC (ONLY AC) 10 mg 1/4 tablet. This should help settle then she should start to eat again. Pick up the food for the night and try again in the morning. Make sure to feed her first before giving the antibiotics

What antibiotic is she getting? Clavamox can make kitty tummies upset, usually they'll vomit it back up though.

Are you testing her blood glucose levels at home? You can do that with a human testing meter. Although it's not good to give the full dose of insulin if a cat isn't eating, it's also not good for them to go without insulin. Testing her blood glucose would let us now if it was safe to give her at least half her dose of insulin. What type of insulin is she getting?

I am very concerned about a newly diagnosed cat which won't eat AND hides. The hiding may be because of all the fuss with shots and giving the AB, but some cats hide when they feel ill. It sounds like she ate very little today and that is a concern, especially with a newly diagnosed cat just put on insulin and being treated for an infection.

How long has she had diabetic symptoms? Not eating is bad for diabetics because it can lead to ketoacidosis, and if there is an infection present it's even more of a concern. Has the vet mentioned you can test urine for ketones? That is better than waiting until you smell acetone (nail polish remover smell) on their breath.

If she is still hiding and not eating tomorrow, please take her to the vet as soon as possible.

Under the bed is standard for this cat. She has feline hyperaesthesia syndrome and we do try to keep her calm because of that. She also is extremely fractious, and cannot be handled at all at the vet without sedation. Her ABX is zeniquin and she is exhibiting classic nauseated cat symptoms. No V & D.There were no ketones when they tested three days ago.
Will post back in the a.m. with update. I'm hoping that missing an abx today will ease up her tummy.

Spoke with vet clinic and they advised ditching the ABX unless she starts having UTI symptoms again-in which case bring her back(audible shudder from technician-she remembers her from last visit) and concentrate on getting her to eat and regulating insulin with how she is eating.
Thanks for the support!
